What is the alumni club and the significance of it?

For the past twenty or so years the Vipers have inducted several former players into the Alumni club. Before the game a former player is introduced onto the ice and presented with a plaque from the team.

I would like to know why don't the Vipers have a list or plaques on the wall inside the arena where fans can see all the former Alumni who have been inducted into the Vipers Alumni club.
