Day 1 Report From Vipers Spring Camp:

I have had season tickets for the past 29 years and been following junior hockey in Vernon for over thirty five years. I have missed eighteen Vipers home games since the 1999-2000 season. Here are my thought's and view's from todays camp.

I stopped by Kal Tire Place North after work this evening and checked out Day 1 from opening day of the Vernon Vipers Spring Camp. Each game/scrimmage is two thirty minute non-stop running periods, with a full ice clean between periods. A penalty is an automatic penalty shot.

This afternoon saw the first two games/scrimmage's from the first day of Spring Camp. At 2:15pm saw Team Black vs Team Blue and then at 4pm saw Team Red vs Team White.

I attended and watched the third and final game of opening day between Team Green & Team Gold.

Starting Goaltenders:

Team Green: Kyle Kozma
Team Gold: Xavier Cannon

Team Green defeated Team Gold 5-3 in front of about sixty or so fans in attendance. I only noticed five season ticket holders in attendance, as everyone else looked to be friends or family of the players. I thought Team Gold was the better of the two teams in the 1st period but it was Team Green that jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Finn Walker & Jakob Jones before Team Gold got on the scoreboard on a goal from Tyler Hill. It was 2-1 for Team Green after the opening period. Both teams switched goaltenders in the second frame. Ashton Billesberger was in goal for Team Green, while Tanner Johnson played between the pipes for Team Gold. Both teams seemed to score a few goals minutes apart as the goals came in bunches early. Team Green played much better and carried the play at times. Team Gold got goals from Noah Lindsay and Adam Kydd. While Team Green scored three second period goals from, Tyler Chyzowski (penalty shot), Garth "Buddy" Johnson as I missed the other goal scorer. Isaac Thomas & Brandon Cleet were both stopped on 2nd period penalty shots. Gerrit Lindhout hit the post with thirty seven seconds left in the game/scrimmage.

Goaltenders:

Team Green:

Kyle Kozma (Allowed one goal)
Ashton Billesberger (allowed two goals)

Team Gold:

Xavier Cannon (Allowed two goals)
Tanner Johnson (Allowed three goals)

Players I thought stood out-Played well

Team Green:

Kerfella Toure Caught my Attention. A kid with a lot of size, was hard on pucks, battled along the wall and never quit skating, played well up front for Team Green.

Tyler Chyzowski (1 goal) Scored on a penalty shot in the 2nd period, isn't the biggest kid but showed a lot of hustle. Worked and competed all evening. Showed some signs of skill at different times in the game/scrimmage.

Team Gold:

Adam Kydd (1 goal) I thought played well, has some size and skill down low.

Noah Lindsay (1 goal) Was one of the more offensive minded/skilled forwards in tonight's scrimmage. Definitely has some soft hands, created/generated chances.
