The colour of the roof on the new arena at Kal Tire Place is generating some talk in the community.

It’s orange, which is different than the roof on the original building.

Director of Recreation Services, Doug Ross, says Kal Tire was instrumental in the unique colour.

“When we were negotiating the agreement for the naming rights, Kal Tire was originally looking for a a five year term, but they wanted the roof to be orange. We we’re able to negotiate a ten year agreement in exchange for the roof being orange,” Ross tells Beach Radio News.

Ross says it was a worthwhile part of the deal.

“It was a great trade off. It gives us some surety for the long term, and some extra revenue that will come in on an annual basis.”

Ross says the new 13 million dollar, 400 seat arena is still on target for completion by September.

“Everything is on time and work is progressing. We’re starting to do some finishing work, which is great to be able to do that at this stage of the project.”
