2009 Doyle Cup Game 2
Posted by HockeyTube on Mar 15th, 2015
Over the years anyone who had seen this game has asked to see the highlights but unfortunately we had misplaced them. This week we discovered the lost footage from the Doyle Cup series between the Six Time National Champion Vernon Vipers and the Grande Prairie Storm. Vernon coached by Mark Ferner and Grande Prairie coached by Mike Vandekamp went to war in Game two. A number of players from both teams went onto play minor pro and some getting a shot at the NHL.
This was one of the meanest playoff games we had ever witnessed with both teams tossing out cheap shots. The penalties ranged from spearing, slashing to blatant elbows and slew foots. Neither team was innocent in this affair but things got out of hand when Grande Prairies Elias Grossmann had roughed up one of the linesman. In that skirmish two match penalties were handed out plus a couple of game misconducts. It was a drastically different game then game one also played in Vernon.
At the time Hockey Canada rules for fighting came with an automatic game suspension…so players were taking matters in their own hands. As a result of Grossmann going nuts we had our first ever viral video…but shortly after that we had misplaced the footage on a hard drive. Now it’s here for your enjoyment!
