VanTeeling to York University

Tuesday, 08.07.2014

Mitch VanTeeling will be taking his talents east. This past season’s captain has committed to York University in the CIS.

VanTeeling has been a big part of the Kings for the better part of the last 4 seasons. He played his first full season in the MJHL with the Kings as a 17 year old, picking up 15 points and being named to the Canada West team in the CJHL Top Prospects game. In 208 regular season games with the pride, the Brandon product picked up 167 points including 40 goals. In his 50 career playoff games, VanTeeling racked up 20 points including 8 goals. During that time the Kings won two Sherwood Division titles, went to the league final twice, finished second at the Western Canada Cup and qualified for the RBC Cup. He was a huge part of this past season’s run to the RBC Cup, as he lead the Kings to the semi finals in Vernon, BC.

VanTeeling has worn a letter and been a part of the leadership group for the Kings for 3 out of his 4 seasons and has always been known as a reliable, responsible player. Mitch played a huge part on all special teams and lead by example each and every night.

“Obviously we’re very happy for Mitch.” said Kings AC Marc Berry. “Teels has been such a huge part of our organization over the last 4 seasons. With his size, skating and intelligence, he should adapt to the CIS game very well. Teels has always been a player that did the little things well. He's very coachable and competes hard at both ends of the ice. We’re excited to see how he does at the next level.”

I’m excited to be moving on to the next level and school. Thanks to Marc and Marlin on everything they did for me, helping me move on and giving me a chance to win every year. I appreciate all their hard work and couldn't have asked for a better place junior hockey’ - Mitch VanTeeling
