TIPS WIN // Setting the Road Ablaze

game-recap kamloops blazers Tips Win

November 11, 2018

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia – Connor Dewar broke a tie game early in the third period to spark three unanswered goals and Kamloops native Max Palaga earned first star honors with 26 saves in his first start to help the Everett Silvertips sweep the weekend three-game series in a 5-2 victory over the Kamloops Blazers, before 3,976 fans at Sandman Centre on Sunday.

For the second time this season, the Silvertips ran the table in a three-game, three-day scenario, but this time under the conditions of traveling nearly 1,100 miles between a pair of games in Kamloops on Friday and Sunday, and a Saturday night win in Kent, Wash. over the Seattle Thunderbirds. Palaga, acquired from Kamloops on Oct. 29, responded to the challenge of facing his former team in his first Silvertip start with 26 stops for his first win of the season.
The Tips won their seventh straight game on the road, Jalen Price earned a multi point game, and Dewar earned the 33rd multi point game of his career.

UP NEXT: The Tips will now play at home for 10 of the next 13 games, starting Wednesday at 7:05pm (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App) in a U.S. Division showdown against the Portland Winterhawks at A.O.T.W. Arena. Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.

Price put the Tips up 1-0, 24 hours after scoring his first career WHL goal by finishing a deft saucer pass by Gage Goncalves over a fallen defender at the right post with 5:21 left in the period.

Luc Smith tied the game on Zane Franklin’s post-to-post set up at 1:17 of the second period, but the Tips responded on Jake Christiansen’s fifth goal of the season for a 2-1 lead at 5:57 of the second period. Jackson Berezowski, who lured defenseman Montana Onyebuchi to over-commit at the right circle, threaded a tape-to-tape pass to Christiansen, who finished a snap shot past Dylan Ferguson between the circles.

Nolan Kneen’s shorthanded goal leveled the game at 14:48 of the period but the Silvertips put away the game on their third period rally. Dewar, hunting a loose puck at the neutral zone, bursted past a Kamloops defender and wired a snapshot to the upper corner on backup Rayce Ramsay from the left circle at 4:59 of the third period.

Berezowski then drove the net and finished a post-to-post deflection by Bryce Kindopp for a 4-2 lead with 5:29 to play, and Wyatte Wylie’s fourth goal of the season sealed the game on an empty net lob from his own zone with 1:53 to play.

Ferguson made 15 saves before leaving the game with 11:43 left in the second period due to injury, replaced by Ramsay, who made 13 saves and took the loss. It was the third time in three games against the Silvertips that Ferguson failed to finish a game.
