Swamp Rabbits Trade Former Viper Musico To Fort Wayne:

The East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) Greenville Swamp Rabbits have traded former Vernon Vipers goaltender PJ Musico to the ECHL Fort Wayne Komets.

Musico attended the New York Rangers Training Camp in October, was assigned to the American Hockey League Hartford Wolf Pack before joining the Swamp Rabbits October 11th 2016.

After playing four years of University at Penn State, Musico signed his first professional contract with the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) Greenville Swamp Rabbits October 13th 2015 before being traded February 9th 2015 to the ECHL Quad City Mallards. The American Hockey League (AHL) Chicago Wolves signed Musico February 27, 2016 where he would finish the season. Musico would head back to Greenville signing with the Swamp Rabbits July 7, 2016.

Musico attended the Vernon Vipers 2008 Training Camp before being released.

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, announced today that goaltender P.J. Musico has been traded to the Fort Wayne Komets in exchange for future considerations. The second-year netminder has played in 14 games with Greenville in parts of the last two seasons.

Musico signed with the Swamp Rabbits in the offseason and played in one game this year. In his lone start against the Wheeling Nailers, the Orange, CA native helped the Swamp Rabbits to a 5-3 win making 35 saves.

The second-year pro made his ECHL debut last year with Greenville and played 13 games. Musico earned a 7-3-1-0 record, 2.35 goals against average, and .925 save percentage. The goaltender finished the season with the Quad City Mallards and recorded a 6-3-1-0 record, 2.66 GAA, and .913 SV% in ten games. Musico also appeared in one post season game, making 26 saves against Missouri as the Mallards were swept in the first round of their Kelly Cup playoff run.

The Penn State University alum helped usher in the school’s Division-I NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey program in 2012. Over the next three seasons, Musico played in 30 career NCAA games, compiling a 10-15-1 record, 3.31 GAA, and .899 SV%.

Musico is expected to join Fort Wayne in Indiana as they end the 2016 calendar year at home against the Toledo Walleye on Saturday night.
