Canucks put Andrey Pedan and three others on waivers

Published:
October 6, 2016

Andrey Pedan has lost the battle to be the Canucks’ eight defenceman — for now anyway.
The Russian defenceman was placed on waivers by the NHL club on Thursday. Joining him on the league-wide free-for-all list are forwards Jayson Megna, Michael Chaput and Mike Zalewski.

Assuming they clear, expect all four to be assigned to AHL Utica.

Pedan was in a battle to win a depth spot on the Canucks’ defence. With Nikita Tryamkin essentially signed to an NHL-only contract and the team seeing Alex Biega as well-suited to the eighth spot (as well as the essential need to make him expansion draft-eligible), plus the play of Troy Stecher, Pedan on waivers is the result.

So far this pre-season, not a single player has been picked up off waivers by another club.
