For anyone who could not attend or watch today’s RBC Cup game here are my thoughts and views from today’s game. You may agree or disagree but we all have our own view and opinion on any game we watch. This is my opinion and my thoughts on how I saw today’s game. I try to be unbiased and give a fare recap on both sides. Thanks for stopping by & visiting my blog.
I was at this afternoon's RBC Cup game as Yorkton defeated Carleton Place 3-1 at Kal Tire Place.
Starting Goaltenders:
Carleton Place: Guillaume Therien
Yorkton: Kale Thomson
1st Period: Both teams come ready to play in a very physical hard hitting game, one of the more physical games other then the Viper games so far at the RBC Cup. The Canadians would get the games first powerplay early but couldnt capitalize. Both clubs had some early scoring chances as both teams were evenly matched. Carleton Place would take back to back penalties but it was the Canadians that would open the scoring shorthanded. Stephen Baylis setup Anthony McVeigh on a two on one put Carleton Place up 1-0. A pretty fiesty period with both teams showing alot of emotion, getting involved in scrums after the whistles. The Terriers would slowly start to pull away in the second half carrying the better of the play but not getting alot of scoring chances. The Canadians went the last seven minutes or so with just one shot on goal having trouble getting any offence going. Carleton Place was up 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. The Terriers outshot the Canadians 16-8.
2nd Period: Yorkton would get into penalty trouble early and often taking the first of two straight penalties but a struggling Canadians powerplay and Carleton Place couldnt put the Terriers away. Yorkton would get their first powerplay of the period, Brett Boehm's powerplay goal tied the game at 9:54 before Tayler Thompson gave Yorkton a 2-1 lead four minutes later. Not alot of scoring chances in the period as it looked like a pick up hockey game, not alot of bodies or pucks going to the net as both teams were keeping each other to the outside. Yorkton was up 2-1 after 40 minutes of play. The Terriers outshot the Canadians 13-12.
3rd Period: The Canadians looked to get rattled, got off their game and took some undisaplined penalties. The Terriers with three straight powerplays would capitalize early into the frame jumping out to a 3-1 lead on Chase Norrish's rocket from the blueline that went crossbar and in. The hard hitting-physical play continued but it was the Terriers who carried the better of the play. Again not alot of real quality opportunities at either ends of the rink. In the end Yorkton would pick up its first win at the tournament with a 3-1 victory. The Terriers improve to 1-2 while the Canadians fall to 2-2. Yorkton outshot Carleton Place 8-6.
Top Players: (Carleton Place)
Stephen Baylis (1 assist) Played very well for the Canadians this afternoon.
Anthony Latina was dangerous with the puck through out the game, quick on his feet, was always involved in the play.
Guillaume Therien (34 saves) I thought played well, made several key saves through out the game to keep his club in the game.
Game Thought's: (Carleton Place)
I thought the Canadians come out of the gates physical, had a few good chances in the opening period couldnt keep pace with the Terriers as the game went on. I thought Carleton Place looked slow as the game went on, especially late in the 2nd and into the 3rd. The Canadians took too many undisaplined penalties and were off their game. Carleton Place had a 1-0 lead let Yorkton to stick around and didnt put them away in the 1st period when the Terriers got into penalty trouble. I didnt think the Canadians looked as good as they have in previous games this week.
Top Players: (Yorkton)
Devon McMullen has impressed me the last two games. Not the biggest kid, can skate, move the puck and handle his own. Very good with and without the puck.
Chase Norrish (1 goal) Another Terriers d-man that isnt the biggest kid but just like McMullen can skate, move the puck, good with and without the puck. Smooth skater.
Tyson Enzie I thought played well for Yorkton, seemed to play one of his better games this tournament.
Brett Boehm (1 goal) Has impressed me at the RBC Cup, played well again this afternoon.
Kale Thomson (25 saves) I dont think has looked all that great this past weekend and week but looked to be a little more confident today, seemed to not the fight the puck, made some good saves and made a few saves when needed.
Game Thought's (Yorkton)
Basically in a must win situation the Yorkton Terriers played their best game at the tournament this afternoon. Going down 1-0 early before getting into some penalty trouble it wasnt looking good for the Terriers. A good penalty kill and the Terriers seemed to get their game going as the game went on. I thought Yorkton was physical, were on the body, moved the puck well. Both teams didnt generate alot of opportunities in the most physical games at the RBC Cup other then the Vernon games. Both teams were fiesty played with alot of emotion. I thought the Terriers were the better team and fully deserved the win. Yorkton carried the play and got better as the game went on.
