Edinburgh Capitals release Les Reaney

EDINBURGH CAPITALS have released forward Les Reaney. The Evening News understands that player-coach Richard Hartmann informed the Canadian of the news late last night.

Reaney, who scored three goals in his ten games for the club, arrived in Edinburgh with a big reputation after a successful career in America’s Central Hockey League.

Capitals management, who have brought back Latvian winger, Marcis Zembergs, for a second stint at the club as his replacement, refused to comment on the reasons behind the decision, but it is believed a lack of match fitness may have been an issue.

Zembergs, who left the Caps in the summer after a two-year spell in which he scored 43 goals in 127 appearances, returned to Scotland after a proposed move to Kazakhstan fell through and he was snapped up on a temporary contract by Dundee Stars.

Capitals co-owner Scott Neil said: “Over the last two seasons Marcis was one of our top goal-scorers, he’s available now and in a position to help us, and we’re looking for him to bring the team some energy to help kick-start our season.”

Zembergs will be in the squad for tomorrow’s game away to Braehead Clan.
