ST. PAUL, Minn. - University of North Dakota senior defenseman Chay Genoway has been named to the 2010-11 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award All-America first team.
Genoway was also a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which was awarded to Air Force senior Jacques Lamoureux.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Genoway, a native of Morden, Manitoba, is in his second year as the captain of the Fighting Sioux. The leading active scorer among NCAA Division I defensemen with 127 career points, Genoway was named to the All-College Hockey News Second Team and the All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) First Team this season after amassing a career-high 37 points (six goals, 31 assists) in 35 games.
Genoway became only the fifth player in league history to be a four-time All-WCHA selection. He also became only the second men's player in league history to be a four-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete.
Genoway, a management major, is a former ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American, and was named to UND's Athletics Director's Fall Honor Roll.
One of the University's most active student-athletes within the community, Genoway has accumulated nearly 70 hours of community service during the 2010-11 school year alone. He has given his time to several organizations, including Special Olympics, Altru Health System, Grand Forks Youth Hockey, the Grand Forks Public Library and several area elementary schools.
Genoway and the top-ranked Sioux face Michigan in the NCAA Frozen Four semifinal tonight in St. Paul.
