  1. The Vipers were in the need of scoring, after only scoring seven goals in four preseason games. This is a great pickup for the Snakes. Sundar was by far the best player on Friday, picking up four points in the Smokies 5-2 win in Vernon. Sundar was sixth in Smoke Eaters scoring last season with 35 pts will bring some leadership, speed, skill and offence to the Vipers lineup. On the other side, I thought Erik Pastro really struggled last season and didn't do much on most night's. A change of scenery and playing away from home will hopefully help the former Vipers Captain.

Matt Cooke has been making roster changes since training camp started. I like a lot of the moves he's done to make the team better. I don't think he's finished and will see more roster moves as the regular season starts this weekend. I really like the hiring of Cooke and what he's done so far and for the first time in about six years, very excited for the upcoming season.

    Go Vipers Go!

  2. I wasn't a big fan of Pastro. Playing for your hometown team can sometimes be more of a bad thing rather then a good thing. A lot of pressure playing at home in front of friends and family every night. I really like the kid they got from Trail, he sure played well in Vernon last weekend

    1. He had an excellent rookie year under McKee playing in his home town. New coaching staff wasnt successful for most players and you could see the lack of drive from most players. He is a smart player and I like the kid. I wish him well.

  3. Good luck to Pastro, hope he can have a successful season after dealing with the circus we saw on and off the ice last season. Change of scenery can only help.

  4. I cannot blame Pastro for wanting a change with what happened last year as to the revolving door of players coming and going and having a coaching staff who really didn’t give a crap other than collecting a paycheque. Good for pastro and I wish him success.

  5. Great trade for the Vipers, Sundar was the best Smokie on Friday and has always put up points for them. It will be a good trade for Trail also if Pastro plays like he can. I hope he has a bounce back year, shows his potential and plays like he is interested to be there. He did not display a lot of that last year. Pastro is 6'3" 181# yet plays like Sundar's size of 5'10" 161#, shying away from any physical contact and waiting for linemates to do the fighting for the puck. I have never been a Pastro fan but DO wish him success in Trail, away from the hometown pressures.

  6. You all might forget that 2 years and 3 years ago Pastro was one of the few players to thrive under Jason McKee. He was a strong defensive player, strong on the boards and a great distributor of the puck. But as soon as Lukas took over his role changed and his playing time went down. Even though he asked to be traded last year Vipers management refused his request and he stuck it out until the end. Can't blame him for wanting a change of scenery.

  8. Wish Erik all the best in Trail this year.

It’s going to be interesting to start this year for sure.
After last year’s gong show team and on ice management we will see a different team this year.

I’m happy to see as many returnees this year that we got considering what they went through.
These kids that came back, came back for a reason. They see the potential.

Koji Gibson had low points last year but I think he’s ready to break out and be a team leader for the boys.

Micheal Munroe was a late addition last year but his hustle should add points to the board. 5 points in 14 last year jumping into gong show. I think there is going to be a letter on his jersey.

Nice to see Deagan McMillan play out his last junior at home. Looking forward to his offensive ability and growth he learned in the WHL. There is goal scoring in that boy!

Davids Livsics, Latvia junior team guy, helped beat Canada. Points look pretty good last year. Think this guy will be a bit of a sleeper, consistent every night but not blow us up. Hope I’m wrong and he kills it.

Jett Quaschnick back as an 08, kid could turn into a stone cold play stopper on D.

Edvin Nillson back as well. This kid was pretty solid I thought considering his group last year. He should bring more confidence to the blue line.

Then we add Bowen Burke, think he did alright. Needs to focus more but if the efforts there he’s got it.

Emils Skeltins got the junior Latvia vs Canada win under his belt. Another World junior guy. Should be confidence for him. Big kid, hope he plugs shit up on D.

Coaching…. Well it’s gonna be WAY better than last year!
I wish them the best and they run the team without too much owner interference.
If they get that, Matt, Ryan and Mike should have a successful year.

Best of luck to the entire team this year!
