McCarthy played four seasons at SAIT (Southern AB Inst. of Tech) from 2016-2020.

McCarthy played two seasons in Vernon from 2014-2016. McCarthy started the 2014-15 season with the Western Hockey League Prince Albert Raiders before signing with the Vernon Vipers November 16th 2014. In 91 games with the Vernon Vipers, McCarthy collected (31-goals-27-assists-58-points).
