The move by the BCHL to announce mid season, teams from the Alberta Junior Hockey League are leaving to join the BC Hockey League, and to the five Alberta teams to allow this to happen, says a lot about the character of the people involved.
Here is the story from thejuniorhockeynews.com,
The Death Pool – BCHL’s Reasons For Leaving Hockey Canada And AJHL Teams Reasons For Joining Not Supported By Facts (thejuniorhockeynews.com)
Wow, this is a very interesting read. I am sure all fans will not agree with this article but it should create some good opinions. A couple of key lines to me are:
ReplyDelete"So that talking point of wanting to develop more British Columbia players really is not turning into much of a factual matter when you look at the rosters of each team."
I have always been worried that BC players may shy away from the BCHL because of the "no back door" policy when joining a team, once signed there is no lower league to return to.
"At least three and as many as seven current BCHL teams have inquired with BC Hockey and Hockey Canada about leaving the BCHL and returning to the new Tier II league being formed in British Columbia under BC Hockey and Hockey Canada."
It will be very interesting to see if this statement is actually true, time will tell.
