The BC Hockey League has a feature on former Vernon Vipers
defenceman Luke Ashton.
Here is the feature from the BCHL website,
Ashton is in his first season with the Langley Rivermen. In 45 games, Ashton has (16-goals-15-assists-31-points).
The Vernon Vipers traded Ashton & forward Copeland Fricker to the Langley Rivermen June 29th 2023 for forwards Owen Kim & Walker Gelbard.
The United States Hockey League Sioux City Musketeers selected Ashton in May 2023 233rd overall in Round 16 at the USHL Draft.
Ashton played two seasons in Vernon from 2021-2023. In 81 games with the Vipers, Ashton collected (2-goals-7-assists-9-points).
Unfortunately we won't be seeing Luke in Vernon this season. The lone Langley game was in Langley in early October. But it's good to see he's having a great year with 16 goals and 31 points. He has also secured a scholarship. His trade got the Vipers a good player in Owen Kim.
ReplyDeleteLuke is on NHL scouting lists and could get picked this summer much to the chagrin of some Viper fans who kept asking "What's he doing on the team?" anytime he struggled as a 16 year old.
One other thing. Luke has a brother, Hunter Ashton, who is a 6 foot 3, 185 pound 2008 forward who started the season as a 15 year old in North Van.
As we all know any player who gets traded from Vernon to another team in the BCHL usually thrives once he has left.
