  1. What's the point? It's a 3 team exhibition tournament

  2. Exhibition or not, I still think the Vipers should have named a captain.

  3. The fool on the hill lies perfectly still. That is how us fans will feel when the other teams have a captain and the vipers do not. Come on management get it together OR are you just going to go ,around and around and around with your decision.

  4. @vdhf Why should they have named a captain? Just because isn't an answer.

@bingo Looks like Penticton is only going with assistant captains as well: https://www.castanet.net/edition/news-story-329531-35-.htm#329531

On normal years I agree having a captain is important, but in this ridiculous exhibition tournament, it doesn't make a difference.
Kind of hard to name a single captain to a team that hasn't played a meaningful game in well over a year. Having alternates or assistants is plenty fine, they'll get some responsibility and see who rises up to the task for the potential future captain.

  5. Finlay Williams was named Captain of the Vees the day he was traded to Penticton from Prince George last summer, and in my opinion the should have a Captain to represent the team regardless of the situation.

  6. I don't care if these games mean nothing or that they are only playing 20 games with no playoffs etc. I still think the Vipers should have picked a captain. I think your team should have a captain no matter the situation on the season or amount of games etc. The Vipers could have picked someone for captain who will be returning next season. I'm not a fan of some of these NHL teams going with no captain.

  7. @vdhf But why???? "Because I think they should" isn't a very valid reason.

NHL teams don't always have a captain....maybe you're placing too much emphasis on the role or value of a captain. I personally believe that it is helpful to have at least one person as a leader of the team, that has usually been the captain...but some teams don't always need to follow that tradition.

I can see it being of more importance at the NHL level, but for a 5 week stint in junior hockey with games that don't mean anything....what's the point? This season is a write off anyways, nobody is going to care who is or isn't a captain this season. In fact, nobody will remember this season at all except in the sense it didn't happen.

Hope to see you all in the rink in the fall!
