New Recruit – Ethan Mercer
June 12, 2020
Vernon, BC: The Vernon Vipers are pleased to announce the commitment of Ethan Mercer.
Mercer is from Slave Lake Alberta and played last season with the Northern Alberta X-Treme Prep team. He finished with 17 goals and 14 assists in 36 games played.
“Ethan is a heavy power forward with raw potential to really improve quickly,” says Head Coach and GM of the Vipers Jason McKee.
Mercer was a teammate with other new commit, Logan Lorenz.
Ethan Mercer's Player Profile:
One thing I have noticed with the new committed players, is size. The Vipers new recruits all have some size. Mercer is big and put up some pretty decent numbers last year playing at Northern Alberta X-Treme Prep. These new recruits/committed players may sound or look good on paper, but what do they look like on the ice and how will they do as a Viper is the real question. Most Viper fans weren't pleased with Jason McKee and the Vipers last year. Let's see what kind of a team he will put together this coming season, if there is Junior hockey this year. One thing I noticed looking at the returning players is the Vipers don't have anybody returning who's been a Viper for three-four years. They don't have a real leader on the team that knows the Viper history and what it takes to be a Viper. Let's see who steps up in a leadership role if we have a season this fall. Who will be captain?
ReplyDeleteIf Trey Taylor is back, I can see him being the captain. But he might move to NCAA as soon as this fall. If not Taylor then Tanaka-Campbell is possible. If you have a conversation with Jo-Jo, he doesn't speak like a teenager. His conversation is like an adult. Very mature for his age. I could see him leading a very young team.
ReplyDeleteWhen you get a kid from Slave Lake you knoiw he will have a great work ethic.
