On This Day In Vernon Vipers History:

Fifteen years ago today (April 15th 2005) In Game 4 of the BCHL League
Finals best of seven series vs the Surrey Eagles, The hometown Vipers fell behind 2-0 in the 1st period and 3-1 in the 3rd before Cody McMullin & Andy Zulyniak tied the game forcing overtime for a second straight night. Tyler Eckford scored on the Eagles fourth shot of overtime at 2:00 giving the visiting Surrey Eagles a 4-3 overtime victory in front of 2,293 fans at the Civic Arena. Vernon outshot Surrey 55-29 Michael-Lee Teslak made 52 saves in the win, while Jon Olthuis made 25 saves in the loss as Surrey took a commanding 3-1 series lead. The Eagles would take Game 5 in Surrey 5-1 winning the series 4-1 and winning the Fred Page Cup, advancing to the Doyle Cup vs the Camrose Kodiaks.

  1. The one memory that stood out from this series was the amount of diving coming from the Surrey Eagles. The entire series it seemed like anytime a Vernon player hit or touched a Surrey player, he would fall, dive or embellished the hit. It was terrible and the refs fell for it almost every play. It was a joke! I'm not saying the Vipers didn't get away with penalties, all teams do every game but the amount of diving or acting on every play/hit was a joke!
