Boxscore-Game Summary,
Game Report,
Text Boxscore,
I watched tonight's game online. Even though the Vipers were down 2-0 after the 1st period, I thought Vernon played well and had several quality chances. Once again scoring, hurt the Vipers tonight. Several mistakes and not a very good 2nd period cost the Snakes the game. Dawson Holt got Vernon to within a goal, before the Vipers gave up a shorthanded goal, putting them down 3-1 and taking the wind out of there sails. The Vipers lost all momentum and couldn't recover. A very disappointing game/loss in a big game where the Vipers were looking to catch Salmon Arm in the standings. Instead the Wild move one point ahead of Vernon for 4th place, with the Snakes dropping to 5th place still two points back of 3rd place Salmon Arm.

ReplyDeleteAfter the Buzzer – Vipers Fall 5-2
February 14, 2020
Wenatchee, WA, USA: Dawson Holt had a pair of goals including one late in the third period, but it wasn’t enough as the Vernon Vipers fell 5-2 to the Wenatchee Wild.
The Vipers had a couple of really good looks in the early going of the period. Logan Cash had a great chance on a 2 on 1 that was stopped by Chenard. Connor Marritt had a look of his own shortly after that, but again couldn’t solve Chenard. Brett Fudger had a pair of looks in the period as well, but the narrative in the first was the play of the Wenatchee goaltender. Wenatchee struck first as a point shot ricocheted off the crowd to Noah Lugli who popped it home to make it 1-0. The Wild then found themselves on a 5 on 3 powerplay. The Vipers killed off the first part, but Dylan Herzog struck from the right circle to give his team a 2-0 lead. The Vipers continued to push with another good look late, but went into the dressing room down 2-0.
The Wild hemmed the Vipers in their own zone for the first few minutes of the period. A fortunate break for the visitors allowed Dawson Holt to be wide open in front of the net and ripped home his 18th of the season to make it 2-1. The Vipers had a chance on the powerplay, but Sam Morton stole a puck in the Vernon zone and slid home the shorthanded marker to make it 3-1. The Vipers powerplay wasn’t able to generate a goal as the game reached the midway mark. Ethan Wolthers made it 4-1 as he sprung down the left wing and hooked a puck through Herbst as it just trickled across the line. 4-1 was the score after 2 periods.
In the third, the Vipers had a push back, but the narrative remained close but no cigar. The Vipers out shot and out chanced the Wild in the 3rd period, desperate to turn the tides. The Vipers even reunited Matt Kowalski with Connor Marritt and Dawson Holt. That decision paid dividends as Kowalski set Holt up in front of the net for his 2nd of the night to make it 4-2. The Vipers nearly made it 4-3 late, but Ben Helgeson was robbed by Daniel Chenard on a breakaway. Ethan Wolthers would hit the empty net to give the Wild the 5-3 win.
The Vipers will welcome the West Kelowna Warriors on Saturday night for Hockey Gives Blood Night!

ReplyDeleteWILD MOVE UP INTO FOURTH AFTER 5-2 WIN
February 14, 2020
With Interior Division playoff seeding and home ice advantage being hotly contested by three teams heading into the final days of the BCHL’s regular season, Friday’s matchup between the Wild and the Vernon Vipers carried extra weight, as Wenatchee entered the game trailing the Vipers by one point. The 5-2 home win for the Wild moves them one point ahead of fifth place Vernon, and one point behind third place Salmon Arm. The regular season concludes on Feb. 23.
In the first period, each team had surges of sustained pressure in the early minutes. Wenatchee broke through when Noah Lugli drove home a rebound at 9:48. Dylan Herzog drilled a heavy snipe off the post and in high on the glove side on a power play to give the Wild a 2-0 lead.
Early in the second period, a Wild turnover was converted into an unassisted Vernon score, but Sam Morton forced a turnover on the penalty kill and backhanded it home to put Wenatchee ahead 3-1. Later in the second, Ethan Wolthers scored, driving up the left wing, cutting hard to the net and putting his shot off the goalie’s stick side shoulder and in for a 4-1 Wild advantage.
Vernon got another bounce in the third, helping Dawson Holt bury his second of the game for the Vipers with just over 5 minutes left to play. Vernon pulled their goalie for the extra attacker with 2:29 remaining, but Ethan Wolthers scored into the empty net with 1:01 left as the Wild closed out the 5-2 win. Daniel Chenard stopped 27 shots in all, including a handful of game changing key stops in the opening period. The win is the fifth consecutive for the Wild.
Wenatchee (28-22-4) plays their final home of the season against Chilliwack (25-18-11) Saturday at 7:05p. The game will be broadcast and streamed online with NewsRadio 560 KPQ, with the Pregame Show airing at 6:45 pm. All games are video streamed live on HockeyTV.
