  1. I watched tonight's Vipers game on my computer. The Vipers were forced to kill off an early power play, were outshot 7-1 early but still managed to weather the storm, opened the scoring, taking the crowd out of the game and played a hard fought Game 1 of the playoffs on the road in a very tough building not only to play in but win in. The Wild outshot Vernon by over half but it didn't look like the game was one sided in anyway, watching the game online. Great to see Reilly Herbst play very well and bounce back with a strong performance. Herbst was lights out when first landing in Vernon, but has struggled since December and hasn't been the same goaltender from earlier in the season. This was a very entertaining hockey game and thought the Snakes played one of there better and more complete games in a while. Wenatchee was one of the hottest teams to finish the regular season, have played very well and hard to beat on home ice this year. The Vipers are a much different team on the road, seem to play better away from home this year. This season has been frustrating to watch as a Viper fan as the Vipers have been very inconsistent all season. You never know what Viper team is going to show up. A huge win to start the playoffs. Go Vipers Go!

After the Buzzer – Vipers Blank Wild 3-0, Take 1-0 Series Lead

    February 29, 2020

Wenatchee, WA, USA: Reilly Herbst stopped all 30 shots he faced and the Vipers powerplay struck twice as the Vipers downed the Wenatchee Wild 3-0 in Game 1 of the best of seven series.

The Wild came out buzzing in the first few minutes jumping out to a shot advantage and a time of possession advantage. The Vipers found themselves shorthanded, but did a great job of blocking shots and clearing out the front of the net. Despite the possession the two minutes expired without any damage against. The Wild still had their legs but defended well keeping the Vipers to the outside and to just 1 shot through 8 minutes. The Vipers ended up shorthanded again and again the PK was great despite the Wild having the puck essentially for the full 2 minutes. Some key blocks killed it off once more. The Vipers then found themselves on a powerplay of their own but couldn’t find the back of the net. Moments after it expired, Logan Cash powered to the front of the net and Connor Sleeth poked home the rebound to give Vernon a 1-0 lead after 1 period.

In the second, the Vipers increased their lead on a powerplay as a point shot from Matt Kowalski was kicked out and Ryan Shostak slammed home the rebound to make it 2-0. Reilly Herbst made a crucial save midway through the period on a second chance in front robbing the Wild player with the paddle of his stick. From there the Vipers defended well and were able to head into the dressing room up 2-0.

In the third the Vipers executed again on a powerplay as Connor Marritt carried into the zone and released a low hard shot to the glove side to make it 3-0. The Wild continued to try get back into the game, but the Vipers were solid defensively and when called upon Herbst was up to the challenge. The Vipers killed off a penalty in the third period as the PK went 3 for 3. A late powerplay for Vernon saw them eat away at the clock and the final horn would sound giving the Vipers a 3-0 win and a 1-0 series lead.

The Vipers will look for another complete effort tomorrow night for Game 2.

    WILD STYMIED IN SERIES OPENER

    March 1, 2020

The Wenatchee Wild were handed a rare shutout loss on home ice to begin their best-of-seven playoff series with the Vernon Vipers, as Vernon posted a 3-0 win to take a 1-0 series lead and steal home ice advantage. It was the first postseason shutout loss for the Wild since joining the BCHL in 2015.

Despite two power plays and a solid push in the first 10 minutes, the Wild fell behind when Connor Sleeth knocked home a loose puck in the paint at 15:26 of the first period. In the second period, Vernon’s power play converted as Ryan Shostak snapped home the rebound of a midpoint shot just 10 seconds into the man advantage. The Vipers led 2-0 after two periods, and added a third in the final period as Connor Marritt whistled a shot home from the left circle in stride, also on a power play. Vernon goalie Reilly Herbst notched a 30-save shutout, and Daniel Chenard kicked aside 14 of the 17 shots he faced for Wenatchee.

The Wild will look to even the series in Game 2 which is slated for Sunday at 7:05 pm before shifting to Vernon for Games 3 and 4. The games will be broadcast and streamed online with NewsRadio 560 KPQ, with the Pregame Shows airing at 6:45 pm. All games are video streamed live on HockeyTV.
