Glen Appreciates The Honour Of Captaining The Regina Pat Canadians:

I found an article on Vernon Vipers forward Jack Glen. This article is from March of 2019 but I thought I would post it anyways.

This was in the Regina Leader-Post Newspaper:

Jack Glen appreciates the honour of captaining the Regina Pat Canadians

Jack Glen is honoured to succeed Adam Herold, one of 16 people who died in the Humboldt Broncos' bus crash, as the Pat Canadians' captain.

Rob Vanstone, Regina Leader-Post         March 7, 2019

Jack Glen feels privileged to wear the captain’s “C” for the Pat C’s.

“Obviously, it’s a huge honour, because I think that our organization is one of the most respected in this league and it has such a heritage,” says Glen, a second-year forward with the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League’s Regina Pat Canadians.

“Lots of guys on this team were great candidates. I don’t think our coaches could have gone wrong with who they picked. I’m just trying to lead the team here for a good run.”

The Pat Canadians passed their first test of the 2019 playoffs by sweeping the Saskatoon Contacts in a best-of-five quarter-final.

Glen had a goal and an assist, as did teammates Cole Sillinger and Adam Kydd, in Tuesday’s clincher — a 4-1 victory at the Co-operators Centre.

Regina entered the playoffs as the top seed after clinching first place on the final day of the regular season — thanks to a short-handed overtime goal by Sillinger.

“You can’t have more fun than to be on a winning team, especially with a tight-knit group of guys like we have here,” Glen says.

“It’s fun coming to the rink every day. Everyone worked very hard all year and it was awesome to get first place. As long as we keep working, I think we can do something special this year.”

Along the way, they will remember and pay tribute to someone special — Adam Herold, who captained the 2017-18 Pat Canadians.

After the Pat Canadians were eliminated from the playoffs, Herold was called up to the Humboldt Broncos for the SJHL post-season and quickly became a key member of their blue-line corps.

Herold was among 16 people who were killed in the Broncos’ bus crash on April 6.

With that in mind, the captaincy is extra-special to Glen, who succeeds a close friend in that role.

“It’s big shoes to fill,” Glen says. “He was a great captain and a great guy, on and off the ice. I’m trying to do the best that I can, but there were some aspects that he had, on and off the ice, that were special.

“I try to be as good as I can, but I don’t think anyone can be like him.”

But one can certainly try.

“I learned a lot from Adam,” Glen says. “That’s who I aspire to be as a captain, because he was the best captain I’ve ever had.

“The stuff he did was just extra. He always made that extra effort to go talk to a guy who he knew was down and pick him up.

“No matter whether he was playing bad or good, he was always the guy on the ice working as hard as he could, trying to give our team that extra edge.”
