  1. Vipers play well enough to win, out shoot the Wild 28 - 25 yet Wenatchee gets all 3 stars. Right!!! How do you spell Homer? Shameless!!!

  2. I watched tonight's Vipers game online. I thought the Wild outplayed Vernon and were the better team in the 1st period. The 2nd period was much more fairly even but the Vipers fell behind two goals. In the 3rd I thought the Vipers outplayed Wenatchee and were the better of the two teams. Around the halfway mark in the final frame, Ben Sanderson with a quality chance couldn't tie the game and then Logan Cash with about two or three minutes remaining would be denied by Daniel Chenard who made a large save late to preserve the win. I did think the Vipers got better as the game went on and played there best hockey in the 3rd period. Vernon didn't catch any breaks or have any puck luck. I was at the Vipers game in West Kelowna last weekend and didn't think Vernon looked/and or played as well tonight. The Vipers go 0-4 with the power play. Give credit to Wenatchee who blocked a ton of shots, kept Vernon to the outside. The Wild also clogged up the neutral zone, giving the Vipers trouble coming out of there own end. With the win the Wild improve to 3-0, while the Vipers fall to 1-1. These two teams meet again tomorrow in Wenatchee and then don't see each other until December 7th in Vernon.

Vipers Fall Just Short in 2-1 Loss

    September 13, 2019

Wenatchee, WA, USA: The Vernon Vipers pushed for a late equalizer, but came up just short as they fell 2-1 to the Wenatchee Wild on Friday night.

The Wild jumped out with a great chance early on as Max Palaga stoned Brett Chorske on a 2 on 1. The game settled down after that as both teams traded chances. The Wild opened the scoring as Jack Bayless snapped home a centering feed to make it 1-0. The Vipers PP had some looks in the period, but the closest they would come was a Matt Kowalski one timer hitting the goal post. The shots in the period finished 10-8 Wenatchee who led 1-0 after 1.

In the second period, the Vipers did a nice job of getting in on the forecheck and causing some havoc. The visitors continued to get some good looks at the net, but couldn’t get one behind Daniel Chenard. Wenatchee increased their lead as Brian Adams snapped a shot low to the glove side of Palaga on a 2 on 1 to make it 2-0 after 2 periods.

In the third, the Vipers found a gear and really pushed the pace. Ben Helgeson was stopped on a one time from the circle, which was just one of many opportunities in the frame. Landon Fuller was able to poke home a loose puck during a goal mouth scramble to make it 2-1, following a power move out of the corner by Connor Sleeth. Ben Sanderson drew a penalty on a partial breakaway, but the Vipers man advantage couldn’t find the twine. A late push with the goalie pulled saw the Vipers get a chance, but it wasn’t to be as the final horn sounded giving the Wild a 2-1 win.

The Vipers will look to return to the win column when they finish off their 3 game road trip tomorrow night at 7:05 from the Town Toyota Center.

WILD CELEBRATE HOME OPENER WITH 2-1 VICTORY

    September 13, 2019

The Wenatchee Wild opened the home portion of their 2019-20 BCHL Schedule with a 2-1 win over the visiting Vernon Vipers on Friday night in front of better than 2,000 fans at Town Toyota Center.

The Wild scored first for the first time in three games this season at the 7:36 mark of the first period. Jerrett Overland held the puck in at the right point, sending it down into the corner for Nico Chmelevski. Chmelevski fed it out front for Jack Bayless who snapped it home across the goalie’s body to the blocker side, and the Wild held the 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Wenatchee doubled their lead in the second period when Nick Cafarelli poked the puck ahead to Brian Adams in the neutral zone, creating a 2-on-1 rush. Adams, a right-handed shooter drove down the left side and wired a shot past the glove hand of Viper goalie Max Palaga for a 2-0 lead at the 4:01 mark that stood through 40 minutes of play.

The Vipers cut into the Wild lead at 7:43 of the third when Connor Sleeth drove down the left wing and cut hard to the net, where his shot attempt was denied. However, in the course of making the save, Wild goalie Daniel Chenard was sprawled out and his stick was knocked behind the net. The rebound try was a no-look backhander from Landon Fuller that slipped through and made it a one-goal game. Six seconds later, the Wild were forced to kill off a penalty which they did successfully. Vernon pulled their goalie for the extra attacker with 1:33 left to play and created a couple of decent chances but the Wild held on to claim the 2-1 Home Opener win. Daniel Chenard improved his save pct. to .931, turning aside 27 of 28 shots. The Wild remain tied for first place in the Interior Division with Penticton, who improved to 3-0-0 with a 7-3 win at Merritt on Friday.

Wenatchee (3-0-0) hosts Vernon (1-1-0) in the second game of the weekend set Saturday Sept. 14 at 7:05 pm. It’s “Cowbell Night” sponsored by AG Supply with free cowbells being handed out to the first 1,000 fans. The game will be broadcast live on NewsRadio 560 KPQ and streamed live on HockeyTV.
