Vernon Vipers Conditioning Camp Schedule:

7 comments:

  1. Somebody should tell the Morning Star Newspaper that we have a junior hockey team and there season starts this week. With the Vipers opening training camp and conditioning camp this week, no mention of it in the paper last week. The local newspaper's coverage of the Vipers was never really great to begin with but I really noticed a decline in the coverage on the Vipers starting last hockey season. Sometimes the sports section went two or three maybe even four papers without any mention of the Vipers. I know in today's world with the internet and social media, local newspapers in small towns are almost useless but I still know several people, especially senior citizens who don't have a computer, that follow the Vipers through the newspaper. The Vipers should be the sports section's main attraction. It's very disappointing.

  2. Ever think this has to do with the new ownership? Put the money towards social media and satisfying fans like you and cutting the advertising budget in local supporters like the morningstar? Last time a morningstar reporter was at a game? Long ago

  3. You are 100% correct. What ever happened to Kevin Mitchell? Did he retire? Don’t look for any improvement in reporting though. Small local newspapers are passé, replaced by the internet. Today newspapers are in business mostly to deliver business sales flyers. They are just too slow at getting any other news out to the readers.

Thank You VDHF for your insights & great commitment to the Vipers. Great job. Your blog if my first read every morning. See you at training camp tomorrow.

  4. The ownership rant is getting a little stale......If ownership was the problem why has the other 13 teams in the BCHL elected not to post their rosters? Shouldn't the league have some ownership in pushing the teams to provide more timely fan information? I haven't seen much improvement in "Fan Experience" with the new 14 month old commissioner.

  5. Well it's still tryout season... No one has a set roster yet. I guarantee that all teams who have posted rosters are only hypotheticals

  6. I understand the newspaper, especially in small towns are almost a dying breed and a thing of the past, but take a look at the Penticton Herold for example. I have gone online and read the Vees writeup's from the Penticton Herold and the coverage on the Vees in there local paper is top notch. A big pat on the back to whoever is covering the Vees. Not only do they cover the Vees but down to the smallest of details. For example after a trade, they tell you what number the new player will be wearing at the next home game and what line he will be playing on. Ok, So the newspaper is on it's way out, then why doesn't someone like Castanet cover the Vipers and do daily reports and stories on our junior hockey team? Castanet in Penticton does a pretty good job covering the Vees. The lack of coverage locally on the Vipers is very disappointing and one reason why I started this blog.

  7. Its all money and relationships. The vees have great local ties and ownership. New Vipers owners haven't started off on the right foot.
