Ferster returns to coaching

Wayne Moore - May 8, 2019

Former West Kelowna Warriors head coach Rylan Ferster is heading back behind the bench.

BC Hockey has named Ferster an assistant coach for the B.C. under-16 team that will compete in the WHL Cup in the fall.

The tournament brings together the top 15 year old players in each of the four Western provinces.

This is the first coaching gig for Ferster since he stepped down as coach of the Warriors prior to the start of the 2018-2019 season.

"I'm really looking forward to getting back behind the bench, and also to work with the great staff that BC Hockey has assembled," said Ferster.

"Short-term competitions are fun and challenging. They really force you to be on top of your game both as player, and coach."

Ferster spent seven seasons behind the Warriors bench, amassing a 210-150-35-0 record. He guided the team to it's only Interior Division, league and RBC Cup national titles in 2015-2016.

He joins head coach Scott Burt, assistant Jamie Jackson and assistant/video coach Leland Mack on the coaching staff.

An evaluation camp will be held at the end of July in Shawnigan Lake. The tournament itself runs the third week of October.
