Former Viper "AP" Hannoun Named Second Star For WHL Championship Series:

Former Vernon Vipers "AP" affiliated player-forward Dante Hannoun has been named second star for the 2019 Rogers WHL Championship Series.

Hannoun scored the overtime winning goal Monday as the Prince Albert Raiders defeated the visiting Vancouver Giants In Game 7 of the Western Hockey League Finals, to advance to the Memorial Cup for the first time since 1985.

Hannoun is the younger brother of former Vernon Vipers forward Demico Hannoun (2013-14) spent the past five seasons with the Victoria Royals before being traded to Prince Albert  January 3rd 2019. In 56 games this year with the Royals & Raiders Hannoun collected (29-goals-38-assists-67-points). Hannoun had five goals and four assists in the league finals.

Hannoun played one game as an "AP" (affiliated player) with the Vipers during the 2013-14 season.

2019 WHL Championship WHL Three Stars

The Western Hockey League is pleased to announce the WHL Three Stars for the 2019 Rogers WHL Championship Series.

1. Parker Kelly, Prince Albert Raiders: The Ottawa Senators prospect led all players in scoring during the 2019 Rogers WHL Championship Series with 10 points (4G-6A) and a plus-seven rating as the Raiders captured their first WHL Championship since 1985. Kelly recorded five multi-point games throughout the seven-game series, including a pair of two-goal efforts.

Kelly had a pair of assists in each of Game 1 and 2 before scoring a pair of goals in Game 3. Held pointless for Game 5 and 6, Kelly had a pair of goals in Game 6 and added assists on his team’s two goals in regulation of Game 7. The 6-foot, 182-pound product of Camrose, Alta. celebrated his 20th birthday Tuesday. Kelly finished eighth in WHL Playoffs scoring with 17 points (8G-9A) in 23 games.

2. Dante Hannoun, Prince Albert Raiders: The overage forward for the Raiders provided nine points (5G-4A) and a plus-five rating in seven games. Hannoun’s highlight of the series came as he scored the game-winning goal in Game 7 to secure the team’s second WHL Championship in team history. Hannoun recorded points in five of the seven games during the series, including three multi-point efforts.

Hannoun scored a goal in each of the first three games in the series, adding goals in Game 5 and Game 7. Hannoun’s goal in Game 1 snapped a six-game goalless streak, but he quickly became one of the best players in the championship series for the Raiders. Hannoun led all players in the 2019 WHL Playoffs with 14 goals.

The 5-foot-6, 160-pound product of Delta, B.C. finished tied for third in WHL Playoffs scoring with 24 points (14G-10A) in 23 games.

3. Bowen Byram, Vancouver Giants: The Vancouver Giants defenceman and 2019 NHL Draft prospect recorded eight points (1G-7A) in the seven-game championship series with his team coming back from a 3-1 deficit to force Monday’s winner-take-all game.

Byram recorded points in four of the seven games throughout the series with a pair of multi-point efforts. His four-assist performance in Game 1 highlighted a strong start by the Canadian Hockey League’s top-ranked prospect for the 2019 NHL Draft. Following an assist in Game 3, Byram posted a goal and an assist in Game 5 before earning a single helper in Game 7.

A 6-foot-1, 192-pound product of Cranbrook, B.C., Byram led all players in scoring during the 2019 WHL Playoffs with 26 points (8G-18A) in 22 games. His 18 assists led the league while his eight goals ranked in a tie for sixth.

Byram is currently ranked second among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting for next month’s NHL Draft in Vancouver, B.C.
