Holland into Hall of Fame

Darren Handschuh - May 10, 2019

Ken Holland is a proud “BC boy” who is humbled and thrilled to be inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

Holland was born and raised in Vernon before moving away at 18 to pursue a career in hockey.

He has been associated with the Detroit Red Wings organization for 36 years, starting on a junior team in 1983 as a goaltender.

From there Holland became a scout and eventually the general manager in 1997, a position he held until this week when he took over as the GM for the Edmonton Oilers.

Holland was inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame a decade ago.

“This is all sports, not just hockey, so to get the call I was being inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame was very humbling and a tremendous honour,” said Holland who started with Edmonton on Monday.

“I'm born and raised in Vernon, B.C., I still go back there in the summer, I have a house there. I am very proud of British Columbia and very proud of Vernon so it is a tremendous honour for me to be inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame,” he said.

Hockey is a family affair for the Hollands.

Dennis Holland is a scout for the Dallas Stars.

The 53rd Induction Class will be honoured at the 2019 Induction Gala Thursday, May 23 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
