Shortridge Named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year

Bobcats' Goaltender is Second League Goaltender of the Year Since Joining ECAC Hockey

ALBANY, N.Y. – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey junior goaltender Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) has been named the ECAC Hockey Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, March 20.

Shortridge is just the second Quinnipiac goaltender to earn the league's goaltender of the year honors, joining Eric Hartzell '13 who won the award for his performance during the 2012-13 season.

Throughout the entire 2018-19 season, Shortridge has not only been among the best goaltenders in ECAC Hockey but the entire nation. He leads the country with a 1.51 GAA and .941 save percentage while his .720 winning percentage is seventh in the nation. Shortridge also has 17 wins and four shutouts on the season. In addition to his superb goaltending, Shortridge also led the nation in goalie points with three assists.

In league play, Shortridge was just as good as he led the league with a 1.47 GAA, .938 save percentage and .706 winning percentage while his 11 wins were second and his three shutouts were tied for the third most.

Throughout the season. Shortridge continued to prove why he was among the nation's top goaltenders as he allowed one goal or fewer  in 16 of his 25 games and allowed just two goals on five other occasions.

Shortridge made 30-plus saves in five different games on the season, including a career-high 38 saves in the Bobcats 2-1 overtime loss against Brown in the first game of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals.

Shortridge's 1.51 GAA and .941 save percentage are both set to become single-season program records, surpassing Michael Garteig's 1.91 GAA from 2015-16 and Jamie Holden's .932 save percentage from the 2003-04 season.

The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team awaits its opponent for the 2019 NCAA Tournament, which they will find out during the NCAA Ice Hockey Selection Show set for Sunday night at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
