Vipers Alumni Hammond Shutouts/Snaps Condors 17-Game Winning Streak:

Former Vernon Vipers goaltender Andrew Hammond made 30 saves in his first start since February 2nd 2019 snapping the Bakersfield Condors 17 game winning streak in a 1-0 victory March 1st 2019.

Hammond is in his first season with the American Hockey League Iowa Wild. In 22 games this season Hammond is 14-7-1 with two shutouts and a 2.67 GAA

The Minnesota Wild signed Hammond July 1st 2018, reassigned Hammond to the Wild October 1st 2018. Hammond played the past five seasons with the Ottawa Senators/American Hockey League Binghamton Senators before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche November 5th 2017. Hammond spent last season in the American Hockey League with the Belleville Senators, San Antonio Rampage & NHL Colorado Avalanche.

After four seasons with Bowling Green University, Hammond signed his first pro contract with the Ottawa Senators on March 20th 2013. Hammond attended the Chicago Blackhawks 2012 development camp and Ottawa Senators 2013 development camp.

Hammond made his NHL debut February 27th 2014 vs the Detroit Red Wings. Hammond was called up that night from the American Hockey League as the backup for Senators starting goaltender Robin Lehner. Hammond would replace Lehner late in the 2nd period who was pulled after giving up six goals on fifteen Detroit shots. Hammond would finish the game playing just over thirty four minutes stopping all eleven Red Wing shots in a 6-1 loss to Detroit. Hammond made his first career NHL start February 18th 2015 vs the Montreal Canadians, recorded 42 saves in a 4-2 win over the Habs for his first career NHL victory. Hammond is the only goaltender in NHL history to earn 21 wins in his first 27 games.

Hammond played parts of two years in Vernon (2007-2009) after coming over in a trade with the Surrey Eagles during the 2007-08 season. In 52 regular season games with the Vipers Hammond posted a (33-15-1) record recording 6 shutouts.

-Wild goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped all 30 shots in first appearance since Feb. 2-
BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. – Iowa Wild (29-17-6-5; 69 pts.) ended the 17-game winning streak of the Bakersfield Condors (33-16-2-1; 69 pts.) with a 1-0 shutout Friday night.
Making his first appearance since Feb. 2, Wild goaltender Andrew Hammond (30 saves) stopped every shot he faced. The shutout was the second of the year for Hammond the seventh for the Wild.
Wild forward Dmitry Sokolov scored the lone goal in the contest, as he converted on the power play at 10:25 in the first period. After hopping off the bench to serve as an extra attacker, Sokolov received a pass from forward Gerry Fitzgerald in the right faceoff circle and blasted a one-timer past goaltender Shane Starrett (15 saves) to give the Wild the 1-0 lead. Defenseman Louie Belpedio recorded the secondary assist on Sokolov’s 11th of the season.
Both clubs saw lengthy 5-on-3 opportunities in the first period, but neither could find the back of the net. Sokolov’s tally came on Iowa’s third of four power-play opportunities in the contest.
At the end of the first period, Iowa led 1-0 but Bakersfield led in shots 14-5.
During the final 40 minutes of play, Bakersfield continued to press but couldn’t solve Hammond. The Condors outshot Iowa 16-11 in the final two periods, but Hammond made save after save. Iowa also killed off five penalties in the contest, the most since Jan. 11 at San Antonio.
The 1-0 win for the Wild was the team’s first since Feb. 4, 2016 vs. Cleveland and the first in regulation since Jan. 18, 2014 vs. Lake Erie. With the victory, Iowa is now 13-5-6-5 in one-goal games this season.
Iowa continues its 3-in-3 with a contest against the Ontario Reign Saturday evening. Puck drop is at 8:00 p.m. CT.
