November 13, 2018

by Regina Pats Staff

The Regina Pats Hockey Club is pleased to announce they have added 19-year-old forward Sebastian Streu to their roster for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

Streu (6’0, 170 lbs), was playing this season with the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL, scoring five goals and seven points in 10 games.

Streu started his WHL career in 2017-18 with the Kootenay ICE, where he has nine goals and 12 points in 54 games.

“We are happy to add Sebastian to our organization,” said Pats VP of Hockey Operations and GM John Paddock. “He brings depth and experience to our forward group and we look forward to having him apart of our team.”

Streu’s father Craig played 16 seasons professionally in Germany, accumulating over 900 career points between the DEL, Germany2, Germany3 and Germany4 Leagues. Sebastian was born in Neuwied, Germany, but is a dual citizen so does not count as an import player.

The Pats will kick off their longest road trip of the season on Tuesday night in Cranbrook B.C. against the Kootenay ICE at 8 p.m. Regina time on 620 CKRM. Next home game is Saturday, December 1 against the Prince Albert Raiders. Tickets are available at reginapats.com, the Brandt Centre Box Office and at any Regina Safeway, where Fun Zone Tickets are $13 plus tax.

  2. Also today, Matt Kowalski has arrived in Vernon from West Kelowna and Austin Chorney is now on the West Kelowna roster. Kowalski is from Vernon and has spent time in Nanaimo as well as West Kelowna.

  3. Again!!! This year has been a real joke. How can Viper ownership expect the PAYING fans to get excited and stay loyal with the constant revolving door of players. We are going to have to settle for a team of Junior B caliber players from here on as we have no depth. no good prospects and no ability to retain anyone who is decent. Other than a few games early we have not iced a 4th line with true forwards.

On another frustrating topic... who approved this years schedule? From October 1st until Nov 17th, 7 FULL WEEKS, we have ONLY 6 GAMES, 2 on Saturdays and 4 on Wednesdays. This is brutal and should never been allowed to happen!!!

The only change from previous years when we had stability, players who wanted to be here and regularly scheduled home games has been the new ownership. I have heard the rumor that they are micro-managing, bringing in players and even telling Mark who to play. I really hope this is not true but it does seem like a hell of a coincidence that we are now a team in turmoil. If true I would expect the fan base to decline even more next year. There is good, entertaining Junior B hockey in Armstrong.

  4. Now that all the players that "Ownership"brought in earlier this year have flown the coup for the WHL, Ferner can finally make some moves. Matt Kowalski traded from WK for Chorney..great player!!

  5. It seems alot of people are jumping ship. Is the atmosphere in the dressing room starting to STINK. Is the leadership in the room falling apart? Or is it that players are looking at better chances towards moving on with there careers? It does make you wonder what is going on or maybe nothing at all, perhaps thats just hockey and we just move forward from all this. Will see. Go, Vipers, Go.

  6. We had unstable ownership to start the year..as many as 4 to 7 recruits refused to report to camp and went else where. New Owernership arrived and thought he could refill the lineup with WHL cast offs. They have all left now because they were all under 19 and were able to find opportunities back in the Dub. If Ferner is able to run the club without any more interference from above we'll be fine. Go Vipers

    1. Recruits with which names? I thought between the large # of returning players and those who did show they would be doing WAY better than they have.

  7. Streu is now the fourth Viper to leave this season for the Western Hockey League.

Is this just a coincidence or are the players reading the writing on the wall?

I liked Streu and thought with some more ice time and confidence he could be a kid that could get some goals this season. Streu had five goals in ten games with the Vipers and played well.

What's going on with the Vipers? Why are so many kids leaving? The Vipers roster has been a revolving door this season with trades, affiliated players "AP's" brought up to play for injured players, player signings and players leaving for the Western Hockey League it seems like the Vipers have a new player in the lineup weekly.

This is always an issue or problem when you bring in a young player from the Western Hockey League. The team they once played for gave up on them, until another team comes a knocking. Once the original team trades his rights, that kid up and leaves his Junior A team to head back to the WHL.

This is a big blow to the Vipers who lack scoring/offensive players.

  8. Re Frustrating Topic....Scheduling...if the new ownership group took over the day before home opener, would this years schedule not have already been pre scheduled ? I would assume the new group would also share your concerns...such as a Wed Halloween night game ! Also, how is it assumed that new ownership has brought in WHL players ? Doesn’t Ferner have direct links to WHL ? Perhaps with injuries coupled with suspensions, there were limited other options ? I would suggest that the group that was left over from last season,in addition, as well as this years recruiting class, have somewhat underachieved...perhaps with the exception of Wooding and Taylor.Looking forward to see if the new additions, healthy lineup, brings better results ? Let’s just hope...NO OT....GO VIPERS.!!!!!
