The Prince George Cougars have added forward Kjell Kjemhus (01) to their roster, the team announced Thursday.

PLAYER PROFILE

Kjemhus, 17, had one assist in 10 games with the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League, so far this season.  Last season, Kjemhus played in 25 games with the Cougars and collected two goals and two assists for four points.

With the addition of Kjemhus, the Cougars’ active roster now sits at 23-players: 14 forwards, seven defencemen and two goalies. Additionally, defenceman Cam MacPhee is on the Injured Reserve with an upper-body injury.

  1. Really!!! Enough of the WHL cast-offs coming to Viperland until their club needs them again. I enjoyed watching Kjemhus yet he confused me. He has very good speed, plays with tenacity but has never been able put many points on the board. He also took too many penalties with us. Overall it may have been better for his development to spend at least the year with the Vipers and create some stability. Bouncing around, especially for a young player, makes it harder for them to "find their game". Best of luck to Kjell but it is better for us to add a player who wants to be here.

  2. I have heard that the WHL castoffs have been brought in by the ownership and not Mark Ferner. Ferner's track record of bringing in WHL'ers is very consistant.. its always a 19 or 20 yr old whose time has run out in the Dub. We are short of players due to the owership fiasco prior to the start of the season thus it could take till next yr to get back on track with better recruits

  3. Kjell Kjemhus is now the third Viper to leave the team for the Western Hockey League this season. Is this just a coincidence or are the players reading the writing on the wall?

I liked Kjemhus. He didn't bring any offense or put up numbers but played hard, battled/competed and was good in the corners and in and around the goal. Did a lot of the little things most fans don't see or notice during a hockey game.

This is always an issue or problem when you bring in a young player from the Western Hockey League. The team they once played for gave up on them, until another team comes a knocking. Once the original team trades his rights, that kid up and leaves his Junior A team to head back to the WHL.

Is there trouble in Viper land? I know its still early and Mark Ferner's teams usually don't get rolling until Christmas but with just five wins in their last fifteen games its hard not to look at the big picture. Yes the Vipers have at least a point in six straight games but they have also given away valuable points early in the season.

The Vipers are having troubles scoring, defending and holding leads in the 3rd period. When the season started I thought the Vipers looked good on paper, but now I see an average hockey team. Vernon plays six of their next seven games on the road. This could be a turning point in the season. The Vipers only have two wins on the road this year.

This year's Vipers and season is reminding me a lot like the 2015-16 Vipers season. Vipers fans could be in for a long season.
