If you check the BCHL Discipline page you will see that there are numerous 4 game suspensions for "Blow to the Head" penalties. The BCHL is trying to eliminate this type of hit from their game and rightfully so. This is Jesse's 2nd such suspension, the first being 4 games. The part I could use an explanation on is the following notation on the same Disciplinary page:
14-Oct-18 The Cowichan Valley Capitals Lucas Vanroboys is suspended 3 games for receiving his 3rd blow to the head minor penalty of the season
What is the difference? Jesse gets his second suspension which escalates from a 4 game to an 8 game yet this example shows a player getting 3 games for "his 3rd". There are a few more examples like this. I am sure there is a reason for what appears to be an inconsistency in the number of games but it would be nice to make it clear. Is it due to injury to the player who was hit? VDHF do you have any insight? Just curious.
Should Landsdell look like a targeted man by the refs maybe in all fairness to his career he should be moved to a different league, Alberta, etc. Hard to say.
I also noticed the other "blow to the head" suspensions and wondered why Jesse Lansdell was given eight games and others given less.
I was at the Vipers/Silverbacks game. I didn't see the hit until very late. It was about seven or eight minutes into the game when Lansdell laid out a big check just inside the Viper blueline would get an automatic ten minute misconduct and a blow to the head for the hit on Tyson Gayfer but stayed in the game. Gayfer was down and stayed down until attended to by the trainer, looked a little woozy heading off the ice, went to the Silverbacks dressing room and didn't return to the game.
If Jesse Landsdell is unable to play his game in the right way because of refs hate on for him maybe it is time to trade him off to another league as it is totally unfair. He is a good player and plays the right way so Ferner lets us think of his future.

ReplyDeleteTalking with several Viper fans last night at the game, most fans want to see Lansdell traded.
