BULLDOGS ADD GOALTENDER DEMERS FROM WARRIORS, DEAL SELLECK TO CAPS

Port Alberni, BC – The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have announced a pair of trades leading up to opening of the 2018/19 British Columbia Hockey League season on Friday, acquiring 1999-born goaltender Cole Demers from the West Kelowna Warriors while dealing 1998-born forward Paul Selleck to the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Demers joins the Bulldogs following two seasons in West Kelowna, where he compiled a record of 17 wins and 27 losses with a 3.60 goals-against average and .897 save-percentage. The Kelowna product previously starred with the B.C. Major Midget League’s Okanagan Rockets, leading all BCMML goaltenders with 18 wins during the 2015/16 campaign.

“Cole is an experienced BCHL netminder who will be able to compete with and support John Hawthorne and give us a very good tandem in goal,” says Bulldogs head coach Matt Hughes. “Cole has also been described to us as a hard worker and a great teammate, so we’re happy to have him on board.”

The Bulldogs open the 2018/19 regular season on Friday night in Cowichan Valley.

Head Coach and General Manager Matt Hughes is making the final touches to his team for the 2018/19 Season and one of those final touches was acquiring Cole Decemers from the West Kelowna Warriors.

Demers who has played 50 games in the BCHL, majoirty with the West Kelowna Warriors has a .897 save percentage kicking away over 1,300 shots.

The trade for Demers was an emotional one as he is from Kelowna “I was a local player for the Warriors and this is the first time living far from home so lots of emotions were racing through me, however in terms of the city and organization I’ve only heard great things!” Demers went onto say he is excited about the upcoming year “Lots of hype going into this season for the Bulldogs which really gets me excited to get the season started.”

Demers who is entering his third season in the BCHL is wanting to have the best goaltending tandem in the league “My goal this year is to have the best goalie tandem with Hawthorne so that Coach Hughes can rely on either of us any given night, and with me only having two more years in this league I personally want to get a scholarship and of course win a championship.”

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday against the Nanaimo Clippers.
