Vipers Double Up Silverbacks 6-3

The Vipers special teams were running on all cylinders as the PK scored 3 times and the PP scored twice as the Vipers defeated the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 6-3 at KTP. Jordan Sandhu had a pair of goals, while Jesse Lansdell contributed a Gordie Howe hat trick to help his team to their 13th win of the season.
The Silverbacks quieted the big crowd early as Logan Mostat sniped his 6th of the season from the left circle to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Viper powerplay got an opportunity to go to work and capitalized on it off the rush as Jordan Sandhu tapped in his 4th of the season to tie the game up at 1. A pretty good back and forth segment carried for about 7 minutes before the Vipers found themselves on another powerplay. This one couldn’t find the back of the net and the Silverbacks struck shortly after. Noah Wakeford was able to find a hole in Ty Taylor to make it 2-1 thanks to his 5th of the year. A few more chances from the Vipers rounded out the period, but after 20 minutes, the home side was down 2-1.
Special teams controlled most of the second period as the Vipers were given five powerplay opportunities. They only scored on one, but the time given in the offensive zone really changed the momentum of the period. Niko Karamanis set up Keyvan Mokhtari for his 7th of the season as he batted the pass out of mid air to tie the game at 2. The Vipers found themselves shorthanded for the first time, but it was their PK that struck as Jesse Lansdell set up Jagger Williamson who scored his 9th to give the Vipers their first lead of the game. Each team hit a goal post in the frame, but no more goals would go in. The Salmon Arm penalty kill was strong killing off two Viper powerplays in succession. The period would end 3-2 Vernon.
The Vipers found themselves in the penalty box early in the period, but as was the case in the second period, their PK would get offensive as Brett Stapley was sent in alone and ripped a low shot on Kyle Dumba, his 13th of the year to give the Vipers a 4-2 lead. That two goal lead was fairly short lived as Austin Chorney tallied his 4th on a 5 on 3 powerplay to cut the deficit to 4-3. Just 40 seconds later, while the Vipers were still shorthanded, Jesse Lansdell fought a puck free off the corner boards and outwaited the goalie and slipped in his 4th to make it 5-3. Lansdell wasn’t done as he dropped the gloves with Chorney following a thunderous check from the Viper forward. Jordan Sandhu scored the teams only even strength goal at the 14 minute mark and that would be the final as the Vipers would skate away with a 6-3 win.
Its a quick turnaround for the Vipers who welcome the West Kelowna Warriors for the second time in 7 days.
