FORMER SASKATOON BLADES FORWARD ADDED FROM VIPERS

Port Alberni, BC – The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are pleased to announce the acquisition of 1998-born forward Luke Gingras and future considerations from the Vernon Vipers in return for 1999-born forward Jordan Sandhu.

Gingras is a veteran of three seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades. He scored six goals while totalling 13 points and 132 penalty minutes in 109 WHL games before joining the Vipers midway through the 2016/17 season. In Vernon, the Langley, BC product picked up 10 points in 21 regular season games and one goal in 12 playoff contests.

“We’re excited to add a player of Luke’s character and experience,” says Bulldogs head coach Matt Hughes. “He brings size and toughness to our roster along with some untapped offensive potential that we’re confident will benefit our group.”

In return, the Bulldogs have sent Sandhu to Vernon following two seasons with the Bulldogs. The 18-year old contributed 30 points last season after being named team captain in September and is committed to Arizona State University for the 2018/19 season.

“I’d like to thank Jordan for all his efforts in Alberni Valley and wish him success moving forward in his hockey career,” says Hughes.

The new-look Bulldogs will begin their main training camp on Monday, August 21st at Weyerhaeuser Arena.

  1. I heard from a reliable source at the Vipers Spring Camp that the Vipers were interested in two players. One was from the Victoria Grizzlies and the other from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Looks like the Vipers may have got both kids they were looking for.

I don't know anything on Sandhu other then his stats. He's not the biggest kid dropped in production last year from his previous season with the Bulldogs. Last year Sandhu picked up thirty points with Alberni Valley, while collecting fourty points two seasons ago.

The Vipers have a possible seven to nine players returning from last years team, don't have much for offence-scoring are going to have to try and land some scoring-skilled veteran players through trades over the off season.

The Bulldogs are getting a player in Luke Gingras that was hot and cold through out last season with the Vipers. Gingras picked up just ten points in 21 games with the Snakes. I never heard Gingras's name in the list of possible players returning to Vernon for the 2017-18 season, so maybe he was being shipped around once the season ended.

The Vipers have been one of if not the most quietest-secretive teams in the league over the summer, making very little to no news regarding new recruits-players for this coming season. Most if not all the BCHL clubs have been very active-busy announcing several new recruits-roster moves-trades etc while the Vipers media relations/PR group looks to have taken the summer off. This is nothing new for Viper fans. In years past Troy Mick, Mike Vandekamp and other coaches were all about keeping Viper fans in loop with news-trades etc through out the summer, while Mark Ferner and the rest of the Vipers organization are very tight lipped when it comes to making any kind of announcements during the off season.

This is the Vipers second trade in three days, will we see more as the summer continues?
