CALGARY – After finishing fifth in the Canada West Conference in the 2015-2016 season, the Dinos are looking to climb the standings and make its way to the University Cup with 12 new players.

Dinos head coach Mark Howell's 2016 recruiting class features 12 players, four who spent last season in the Western Hockey League, one from the AJHL, one from the SJHL and one from the BCHL, as well as two players from the Western States Hockey League and three University transfer, two from the NCAA and one from within the CIS. Seven of the twelve recruits are forwards, three defensemen and two goalies round out the recruiting class.

Calgary lost its' Captain and two of its' assistant captains in Kevin King, Max Ross and Spencer Edwards, leaving large skates to be filled as all three players have signed in France to pursue a pro career. The Dinos will need to fill other gaps in the roster as two other character players graduated from the Dinos program: Brooks Myers and Alex Dzielski.

"We lost some character guys, quality players, all those guys were key contributors to our team on and off the ice," explained Howell. "It's definitely a transition year but we are confident in the guys we have returning, who can take over the leadership side. Some of the guys coming in have been captains in the past which we feel was important in our recruiting."

Despite moving around a fair amount during his junior career the Alberta native is beginning his CIS career just a few hours south of his hometown.

Coach Howell: "We needed some offensive defensemen and I feel Braiden will be that player. He's a talented guy, it's a transition but when he makes that transition he has the potential to be similar to Cory Pritz who was here for five years and was an all-star."

Logan Fisher • 6'2" 205 lbs • Forward • Arts • Red Deer, Alta • Victoria (WHL)

After four years with the Victoria Royals of the WHL Logan Fisher will begin his CIS career with the Dinos.

Logan comes very highly regarded from his coaches as far as quality of player and person. He's a guy we're looking at eventually taking over a leadership role on our team and be a key element on the ice."

An explosive forward, Robbie Fisher is the second of three transfers to join the Dinos.

Coach Howell: "Anytime you know the level of play helps. Robbie is similar to Brooks Myers who was highly respected in the room by his coaches and the players, he just did everything that was required to help us win and be successful. Robbie is very similar, he can play in a defensive role and help on the penalty kill. Just a really high-end, character guy that plays the game hard."

Matt's coaches couldn't speak enough on his work ethic, his battle, his compete, his ability to play net. He changed their team, they barely lost a game after he arrived, he gave them the confidence they needed. We're excited to have Matt, anytime you win a championship there's something to be said about that."

Coach Howell: "Braiden will be one of the best skaters in our league, he's an offensively gifted defensemen who likes to skate. We're going to let our D-men go and contribute, skate the puck… where maybe he didn't' have as many of those opportunities in the NCAA. We're going to look at him to carry the puck and create offense with his speed and ability to get the puck through the neutral zone."

Coleman Vollrath • 6' 170 lbs • Goalie • Arts • Calgary, Alta • Victoria (WHL)

Rounding out the Dinos recruiting class of 2016, Vollrath will play for the Dinos in his hometown.

We really targeted Vollrath a Calgary kid who's a terrific guy with a great work ethic. The coaches in Victoria spoke so highly of him. It's going to be a really healthy competition between our three goaltenders, they all work really hard, they are all terrific people and they're all great goaltenders. We're excited Coleman chose us."
