Bukovec’s four-goal effort nabs POW
September 12, 2016
Alberni Valley Bulldogs forward Tristan Bukovec has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 11, the league announced Monday.
Bukovec went off on opening night, scoring all the ‘Dogs’ goals in a 4-1 road win over the Nanaimo Clippers. He completed his hat trick by 2:38 of the second period and added the fourth shortly after. He was named the game’s 1st Star.
The Penticton, B.C. native added an assist the next night in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Victoria Grizzlies. Bukovec, who had six goals all of last season, is the early leader in the BCHL scoring race.
Honourable mentions this week:
Victoria Grizzlies F Justin Michaelian: 2G, 1A, 2 GWGs
Vernon Vipers F Riley Brandt: 2G, GWG, SHG
Trail Smoke Eaters D Tyson Slater: 3G
Prince George Spruce Kings G Stefan Wornig: T, 1st Star, 3rd Star, 81 saves/87 shots, .931 sv%, 2.88 GAA
Penticton Vees F Ty Amonte: 2G, 2A, GWG, 1st Star
I am impressed with Riley Brandt so far. He seems to be using his approach to the game with more intellect. He can still use body against others, but do it with some smarts by not taking a useless penalty thus impacting his team. Be Smart Riley and prove yourself a leader.
