Americans Reassign Former Viper Friesen To KIJHL:

Too early to say Friesen returning to Storm

A deep forward corps might just get a little deeper.

Left-winger Mitch Friesen was reassigned by the WHL’s Tri-City Americans Tuesday morning, with the club announcing they had sent the 19-year-old to the Kamloops Storm of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

But, according to Storm general manager Barry Dewar, it would be premature to say Friesen will end up in Kamloops.

“We haven’t talked directly to Mitch, but we’re trying to find him a place [elsewhere],” Dewar said.

The GM said that while the Storm would welcome Friesen back with open arms, they would prefer to see him play at either the junior A or major-junior level.

Dewar has reached out to a number of clubs to gauge their interest in the 6-foot-4 forward.

In parts of two seasons with the Storm, Friesen tallied 59 points, including 30 goals, in 59 games. He also has 43 points in 41 playoff games in the KIJHL.

Friesen, who hails from Surrey, was originally selected by the Kamloops Blazers in the fourth round of the 2011 WHL bantam draft.
