Ex Viper Basara Attends Capitals Development Camp:

Former Vernon Viper forward Marcus Basara attended the Washington Capitals Development Camp in July from July 7th-July 11th.

Basara will be entering his third season with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks played parts of the two seasons in Vernon (2010-2012) before being traded along with Connor Hartley & future considerations to the AJHL Okotoks Oilers on November, 28th 2011 for Ben Gamache. In 80 games with the Vipers Basara collected (18-goals-27-assists-45-points).

The Washington Capitals will host their 2015 Prospect Development Camp from July 7-11 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex

The Washington Capitals will host their 2015 Prospect Development Camp from July 7-11 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. All on-ice sessions are free and open to the public.

Capitals development camp is an annual week-long summer session with on- and off-ice workouts designed to help Capitals prospects improve their games and allow the Capitals to evaluate their progress. This is the ninth straight year that the camp is being held at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Past development camps have been held in Odenton, Md., and Hershey, Pa.

Attendees include Capitals prospects who are under contract and recent Capitals draft picks who have not been signed yet. In addition, several undrafted and free agent amateur players will be in attendance.

The Capitals will host Fan Fest on Saturday, July 11. In addition to the scrimmage, which will be streamed on MonumentalNetwork.com, Fan Fest will feature the team’s annual equipment sale, autograph sessions and a special free open skate.

Media Information

Players will be made available to the media following the on-ice session each day (approximate times listed to the right). Players not in the group that is on the ice for the final session will be brought to the interview area upon request. Due to space constraints, the Capitals locker room is closed to the media for the duration of camp. Please make player requests to a member of the Capitals’ media relations staff.

Camp Storylines

Quick Studies – Two players (Andre Burakovsky and Liam O’Brien) who attended last summer’s development camp played for the Capitals in 2014-15. Burakovsky and O’Brien combined to play in 66 games for Washington last season and registered 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) and 33 penalty minutes. Ten players who attended the 2014 development camp (Travis Boyd, Andre Burakovsky, Michal Cajkovsky, Pheonix Copley, Christian Djoos, Caleb Herbert, Liam O’Brien, Chandler Stephenson, Jakub Vrana, Nathan Walker) played for Washington’s AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, during the 2014-15 season and six players (Michal Cajkovsky, Wade Epp, Garrett Haar, Caleb Herbert, Braden Pimm, Nathan Walker) played for Washington’s ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays, in 2014-15.

Age Differential – Turner Ottenbreit (born July 9, 1997), a free agent invite, is the youngest player attending this year’s development camp. Free agent invite Dajon Mingo (born May 7, 1990) is the oldest.
