Former Vernon Vipers Goaltender Smith Named To ACAC All-Conference Team:

Former Vernon Vipers goaltender Austin Smith has been named to the ACAC All-Conference Team. 

Smith finished his first season at Sait (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology).  In 29 games this year with the Trojans Smith went (22-7 with 3 shutouts and a 2.96 GAA).  Smith was released from the Western Hockey League's Swift Current Broncos before joining the Vernon Vipers.  Smith spent two seasons in Vernon (2012-2014) In 77 regular season games with the Vipers Smith recorded a (31-39-4 Record with 3 shutouts).

Trojans trio named to ACAC All-Conference Teams

CALGARY (March 20, 2015) — The SAIT Trojans men's hockey team saw three of its players named to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) All-Conference Teams.

Goalie Austin Smith, defenceman Mike Puddifant and forward Mitchell Board were all named as All-Conference selections — Smith a First Team nod, Puddifant and Board to the Second Team. It is the first time each of the three has earned the honour.

Smith becomes the first SAIT goalie to be named First Team All-Conference since Michael Tadjdeh did it in 2013. Since 1968, 27 Trojans goalies have been selected to the All-Conference teams, and Smith becomes just the ninth to be named First Team.

Puddifant joins a long list of SAIT blueliners to be named Second Team All-Conference. Trojans defenceman have made the cut in seven of the last eight seasons.

Board becomes the first SAIT forward to be named to the Second Team since Clinton Pettapiece was selected in the 2012-13 season.

Austin Smith (Goalie)

Smith shined in his rookie season in the ACAC. His 22 wins not only set a new SAIT Trojans single season record, but they also led the league. He also finished top four in the league in goals against average (2.96), saves (829), shots faced (914), minutes played (1,724) and shutouts (three).

SAIT Men's Hockey Second Team All-Conference Players:

Mike Puddifant (Defence)

Puddifant had an exceptionally good season patrolling the blueline for the Trojans. He led all ACAC rearguards with 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists) in 28 games. He recorded multiple points on seven occasions, including five assists in his team's 12-5 win over Portage College on Sept. 27.

Mitchell Board (Forward)

Board's third season with the Trojans was his best offensively. He led the Trojans with 37 points (15 goals, 22 assists) in 32 games played, which was good enough for seventh best in the ACAC. His production rose in the second half of the season, recording 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) in his final 16 games.
