Komets Add Former Viper Marino To Teams Protected List:

On June 2nd the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) announced
its Protected Lists as submitted by each of its member teams. The ECHL Fort Wayne Komets have twenty one players listed on their protected list one of is former Vernon Vipers forward Brandon Marino.

Marino has played the past two seasons with the Komets after signing with Fort Wayne on July, 17th 2012. In 72 games last season Marino collected (30-goals-58-assists-88-points). Marino finished as the ECHL's regular season leading scorer with 88 points & was named to the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) 2013-14 All-ECHL First Team.  At the Komets year end banquet Marino was named the teams Mr. Hustle award & team MVP.   

Before joining the Komets Marino spent the previous three seasons with the Central Hockey League (CHL) Quad City Mallards. Marino was named the 2011-12 Central Hockey League Most Valuable Player, as well as took home MVP at the 2012 CHL all-star game. Marino had a breakout season which he led the league with 41 goals and finished second with 90 points. The 5’ 9”, 185-pound Riverside, California native also led the league in power play goals (13), ranked fourth in assists (49) and finished tied for fourth in shorthanded goals (3) and game winning goals (7) while also posting a plus/minus rating of +9. Marino played just two games with the 2002-2003 Vernon Vipers.

Komets announce Protected List

Fort Wayne, IN ---  The Komets announced Monday their Protected List of players as submitted to the ECHL.

Players listed include the following:

Goaltenders John Muse and Ben Meisner. 

Defensemen Simon Danis-Pepin, Justin Sefton, Matthew Maione, Jace Coyle, Joe Hartman and William Lacasse.

Forwards Matt Carter, Scott Fleming, Brandon Marino, Mike Embach, Sy Nutkevitch, Aaron Clark, Christian Ouellet, Chris Auger, Kaleigh Schrock, Jason Dale, Kenton Miller, Dean Ouellet and David Rutherford.

Teams are allowed to protect as many players as they wish provided the players protected meet the guidelines as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association which state that teams shall retain the rights to each player that:

1. Signed an SPC in 2013-14 with the Member, and has not been traded or released, OR

2. Signed an SPC in 2013-14, and was recalled to the NHL/AHL or IIHF team, and has not been traded or released, OR

3. Had received a Qualifying Offer last summer for the current season, DID NOT sign an SPC, and has not been traded or released, OR

4. Has been suspended by the Member or League, and has not been traded or released, OR

5. Signed an SPC on or after the first day of the 2013-14 Regular Season, then subsequently signed an NHL/AHL contract, and has not been traded or released, OR

6. Has executed the ECHL Retirement Form, and has not been traded or released.
Protected lists may exceed 20 players.

Also on Monday the ECHL announced that teams must complete all Future Consideration trades by 3pm ET on June 13 and that teams must submit their Season-Ending Roster by 3pm ET on June 15.

Season-ending rosters may include up to 20 players and cannot include any players who did not sign an ECHL contract in 2013-14.
