Wild Sign Former Vipers Forward Collins:

The American Hockey League (AHL) Iowa Wild have signed former Vernon Vipers forward Mike Collins to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Collins finished his fourth and final season at Merrimack College this season before turning pro in early March siging a Professional Try Out (PTO) contract with the AHL Providence Bruins on March 11th 2014. Collins went pointless in four games with the Bruins was released on March 27th 2014.  Collins played two season's in Vernon (2008-2010) In 119 regular season games with the Vipers Collins recorded (55-goals-71-assists-126-points).

Iowa Hits the Road for The Next Five Games, Returns Home Apr. 11

Des Moines, IA – Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill announced on Thursday the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed forward Mike Collins to an ATO (Amateur Tryout Agreement) and released defenseman Nicholas Rioux from a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Collins turned pro in mid-March, signing with the Providence Bruins upon completion of his WCHA eligibility at Merrimack College. The 23-year old forward was scoreless in four games with the Bruins. He spent the last four years at Merrimack College, scoring 53 times and assisting on 65 goals for 118 points in 138 games with the Warriors. 

Rioux returns to the team’s Central Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Quad City. Over three different stints, the Quebec native has played in eight games for the Wild, going scoreless with fou penalty minutes. Rioux is a third-year pro who spent training camp with Iowa before heading to Quad City. He’s made 55 appearances for the Mallards this season, scoring five goals and setting up 25 others for 30 points.

Iowa begins a five-game road trip on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 2 p.m. in Toronto. The team will also make stops in Utica, Grand Rapids, Chicago and Milwaukee prior to returning home on Friday, April 11 for Chicago at 7:05 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena.
