Clan Sign Former Vipers Defenceman Nycholat:

The Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) Bravehead Clan have signed former Vernon Vipers defenceman Dan Nycholat.  The Clan are a Scottish professional ice hockey team that is based in Renfrewshire, around two miles outside the Glasgow City limits.

Nycholat played last season with the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) Fort Wayne Komets.  The Komets invited Nycholat to Training camp on September, 19th 2012 before releasing him on October, 10th 2012 but then signed him the following day on October, 11th 2012.  Nycholat was placed on reserve on March 3rd 2013 before being released on March 21st 2013. In 60 games with the Komets Nycholat collected (2-goals-16-assists-18-points).
  
Nycholat finished his first season (2011-12) at Dartmouth College, collecting two assists and 15 penalty minutes in 25 games before signing a amateur try-out (ATO) with the ECHL Las Vegas Wranglers on March, 16th 2012. Nycholat went pointless in four regular season games with Las Vegas before being released. Nycholat made the 2012 ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team in June 2012. Nycholat played two season's at Northeastern University before leaving the Huskies and playing one season in Vernon (2009-2010) where he won the top defenceman award. The AJHL Canmore Eagles traded Nycholat's playing right's on August, 20th 2009 to the Vipers for forward, Kory Roy and future considerations. In 58 regular season games with the Vipers Nycholat collected (7-goals-38-assists-45-points).

Clan Add Cullen & Nycholat

The Braehead Clan are delighted to announce the signings of forward Joe Cullen and defenceman Daniel Nycholat.

Drafted in round 7, #211 overall, in the 2000 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Cullen joins the Clan having iced last season for Val Pusteria in Italy.

Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty is delighted to confirm the capture of Cullen: “Joe Cullen is a highly skilled player and someone that comes highly recommended to us. I saw Joe play a couple of years ago when I was in Bruneck and he’s someone that has interested me since.

“I am delighted we’ve been able to sign such a high calibre player. Joe can play center and wing and will bolster our already impressive offensive line-up.”

Canadian defenceman Nycholat joins having started the season with HYS The Hague in The Netherlands. The 24-year-old is in his second season of pro hockey having iced for Fort Wayne Komets last season.

“We’re very short on bodies at the back right now” confirmed Finnerty. “When we were aware of Daniel’s availability we decided to make the move.

“With the two injuries to Kenton [Smith] and Ray [Macias] we had to bring someone in.

“Daniel was one of the top points scoring defenceman for Fort Wayne last season, he comes with a good resume and is looking to earn a spot on this team.”

Clan Operations Director Gareth Chalmers reiterated the decision to recruit reinforcements after a mounting injury situation.

“We’ve hit somewhat of an injury crisis within the line-up. We want to continue to progress forward this season and provide our fans with the best possible product on the ice.

“The club ownership are supporting Ryan by ensuring we have the resources to play a full strength roster where possible.”

Nycholat arrives into the UK today in time for Saturday’s game against Belfast. Cullen is currently awaiting his visa to be processed before flying in.
