No. 5 Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey's Connor Jones, Michael Garteig and Sam Anas Sweep ECAC Hockey Weekly Awards

ECAC Hockey Weekly Release (Nov. 5, 2013)

The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program swept the ECAC Hockey awards as announced by the league office on Nov. 5, 2013. Connor Jones earned Player of the Week honors while Sam Anas grabbed his second-straight Rookie of the Week award and Michael Garteig was named Goalie of the Week.

Quinnipiac rolled to a 2-0-0 record for the weekend, defeating Colgate, 7-2, before blanking No. 15 Cornell, 3-0, to run their national-best winning streak to eight games. Quinnipiac is now 8-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in ECAC Hockey.

Jones had three goals and an assist in a pair of wins at Colgate (7-2) and No. 14 Cornell (3-0). In addition, Jones was the only player in the country to score the game-winner in both games this weekend. Against Colgate, Jones had two goals and an assist to become the 34th player in Quinnipiac history, and 20th at the Division I level, to reach 100 career points. In addition, he is one of 10 active players in the country with 100 career points. For the year, Jones has registered five goals and six assists for 11 points.

Garteig pushed his winning streak to eight games with a win at Colgate before his first career shutout against No. 14 Cornell to the tune of 23 saves at Lynah Rink. For the week, Garteig was 2-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .943 save percentage. For the year, the reigning ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month is 8-1-0 with a 1.56 GAA and a .917 save percentage.

Anas continued his hot play with a team-leading five point weekend in a pair of wins against Colgate and No. 14 Cornell. In a 7-2 win against Colgate, Anas had a goal and three assists while he also picked up an assist in the Bobcats' 3-0 win against Cornell. Nationally, Anas' five points were the most among all Division I skaters for the weekend while his four assists also led the country in this weekend's games. For the year, Anas has scored seven goals and assisted on six more for 13 points - good for 3rd nationally, first in ECAC Hockey and the most among all freshman skaters in DI hockey.

Anas is also the first player in ECAC Hockey to win the rookie award in consecutive weeks since Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario) did it on Feb. 28 and Mar. 6, 2012. He is also just the seventh player - joining Peca, Cornell's Brian Ferlin, St. Lawrence's Greg Carey, Harvard's Louis Leblanc, Clarkson's Paul Karpowich, RPI's Mathias Lange and Yale's Alec Richard - to win back-to-back weekly rookie honors since Quinnipiac joined ECAC Hockey in 2005-06.

It is also the first time since Quinnipiac joined ECAC Hockey that the Bobcats have won all three awards in the same week. The last ECAC Hockey team to do it was RPI on Mar. 6, 2013 when Nick Bailen won Player of the Week while Jason Kasdorff grabbed Goalie and Rookie honors. Yale was the last ECAC Hockey team to have three different players win all three awards in a week, on Jan. 15, 2013.
