I missed the morning scrimmage but made it down to the rink for the second and final game on the final day of Vipers Spring Camp.
Team Blue played a very defensive game defeating Team Yellow 5-1. Austin Hannaford was very solid between the pipes for Team Blue. Plays his position well, dosnt give up alot of rebounds and very steady all morning. Defenceman Hunter Behrens who has been impressive all camp was in two fights today. This kid has some size, plays physical and isnt afriad to drop the gloves. Plays with a bit of an edge, stood out in the games I watched. Matthew Hill really impressed me again today, this kid has some wheels, can move the puck and has skill. Played very well all camp. Nicolas Guerra also has some skill and nice hands. Played well for Team Blue today.
I was pretty impressed with this years Spring Camp. Some very good players at camp this year. The level of play and compete level was pretty high making for some pretty good scrimmages. The Vipers coaching staff is going to have some very tough decisions to make come Training Camp in late August. The Vipers have all but three players returning from this years team and have eight twenty year olds (league limit is six) Dont forget about the four or five players coming over through some of the trades this past season (regarding future considerations) and the Vipers already have to many kids. Not to mention any new recruits that land over the summer. So you know there will be some trades happening over the summer. It will be interesting to watch the Vipers roster develope over the summer and into Training camp.
Actually, there are eight 20 year olds listed on the roster. Bird, Board, Crisfield, Persley, Renz, Sparrow, Russell and Smith. Crisfield was at the spring camp and will be returning.
