Vernon Vipers defenceman Marc Hetnik has accepted a scholarship to play at the University of Massachusett for the Minutemen next season.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound native of Brookline, Mass. will return to his home state for college. Now in his second season with the Vipers, Hetnik has played 100 BCHL games and registered five goals and 21 assists in that time.

UMass has been a successful proving ground for BCHL alums in recent years with Nanaimo Clippers graduate Matt Irwin playing there and going on to his NHL debut this season with the San Jose Sharks.

On the current Minutemen roster, starting goalie Kevin Boyle is a Westside Warriors graduate, Evan Stack is a product of the Merritt Cetnennials and Eric Filliou a Penticton Vees alum.

UMass plays in the NCAA's Division I Hockey East conference against the likes of Boston College, New Hampshire, Vermont and Providence.
