Oilers Waive Ofukany, Sign Weeks

Friday, December 28th, 2012

TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers announced Friday they have signed forward Jason Weeks and released forward Troy Ofukany.  Weeks will be in the lineup on Friday evening when the Oilers host the Quad City Mallards at 7:35 p.m. at the BOK Center.

Weeks, 27, returns to the Oilers after playing 23 games for Tulsa last season.  The versatile winger scored six goals and notched three assists during the 2011-12 campaign in which he also saw time on the Oilers blue line.  A Seattle native, Weeks was waived and signed five different times last year before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in late February.  Weeks, 5-10, 190 pounds, has spent time in the SPHL and ECHL and suited up in one game last season for the CHL’s Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

“I’m happy to have Jason back on our roster, he’s a smart, tenacious player and a reliable player no matter where he’s at on the ice,” said Bruce Ramsay, Oilers Head Coach.  ”He’s kept himself in great shape and I have no doubt he’ll bring energy to our team.  He earned my trust and the trust of his teammates last season and I know he’s excited to get back out there.”

Ofukany appeared in 23 games this season and recorded two goals and four assists.  The 25-year old joined the Oilers in November 2011 and notched 28 points in 53 games last season.
