Admirals Sign Former Viper Marino To PTO Contract:

The AHL Norfolk Admirals have signed former Vernon Vipers forward Brandon Marino to a Professional Tryout Contract.  Marino was playing with the ECHL Fort Wayne Komets before jumping to the American Hockey League.  Marino signed with the Komets on July, 17th 2012 after playing the last three seasons with the CHL Quad City Mallards .  Marino was invited to the Admirals training camp on September, 26th 2012 but was released on October, 4th 2012.  In 42 games this season with the Komets Marino has (12-35-47).

Marino was named the 2011-12 Central Hockey League Most Valuable Player, as well as took home MVP at last year's CHL all-star game. Marino had a breakout season during which he led the league with 41 goals and finished second with 90 points. The 5’ 9”, 185-pound Riverside, California native also led the league in power play goals (13), ranked fourth in assists (49) and finished tied for fourth in shorthanded goals (3) and game winning goals (7) while also posting a plus/minus rating of +9. Marino played just two games with the 2002-2003 Vernon Vipers.

Admirals Sign Marino, Rizk to Professional Tryout Contracts

NORFOLK – The Norfolk Admirals have signed forwards Brandon Marino and Jean-Michel Rizk to Professional Tryout Contracts, Admirals Assistant General Manager Bob Ferguson announced today. Both Marino and Rizk join the Admirals after beginning the season with Norfolk's ECHL affiliate, the Fort Wayne Komets.

Marino, 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, has appeared in 40 games with Fort Wayne this season, registering 12 goals and 44 points with 34 penalty minutes and a +7 plus/minus rating. He leads the team in points and assists (32). A 26-year-old native of Riverside, California, Marino has appeared in 236 career professional games between the Komets and the Quad City Mallards of the CHL/IHL. He is looking to make his American Hockey League debut. The fourth-year professional is an undrafted forward from Bemidji State University, where he scored 15 goals and 51 points in 116 games in his four-year collegiate career.

Rizk, 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, has appeared in 40 games with the Komets this season, notching 15 goals and 25 points with 43 penalty minutes and a -1 plus/minus rating. He leads Fort Wayne in goals. A 26-year-old native of New Liskeard, Ontario, Rizk has appeared in 105 career professional games between the Komets, Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL and Flint Generals of the UHL. He is also looking to make his AHL debut. The second-year professional was selected in the seventh round (195th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild. He played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, posting 64 goals and 131 points in 98 career games.
