Former Vipers Defenceman Garrett Noonan's Powerplay Goal Holds Up As Game Winner:

Former Vernon Vipers defenceman Garrett Noonan's powerplay goal in the 1st period held up to be the game winner as Boston University defeated Maine University 1-0 last Saturday.  Noonan is in his third season at Boston University.  In 15 games with the Terriers this season Noonan has (3-7-10).  Noonan was drafted by the Nashville Predators in round 4 #112 overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Noonan played one season in Vernon (2009-2010) collecting (2-16-18) in 58 regular season games with the Vipers.

BU closes first half with 10-5-0 record

BOSTON - The No. 7 Boston University men's ice hockey team closed out the first semester with a 1-0 victory over Maine on Saturday evening at Agganis Arena.

Freshman Sean Maguire earned his second consecutive shutout with a 28-save performance and junior Garrett Noonan provided the game's lone goal on a power play just 7:13 into the contest.

BU improves to 10-5-0 overall and 8-4-0 in Hockey East play and has now won seven of its last 10 games. The Black Bears fall to 2-11-2 with a 1-7-2 conference mark.

Noonan's tally came on a blast from the left circle that beat Maine goaltender Martin Ouellette short side. Freshman Danny O'Regan and sophomore Alexx Privitera picked up assists on the goal.

BU missed a great opportunity to double its lead late in the second period when sophomore Cason Hohmann drew a penalty shot while skating in on a breakaway. A hooking call on Steven Swavely awarded Hohmann the try, but Ouellette came through with a glove save to keep it a 1-0 game.

Ouellette made 20 stops in goal for Maine, which came up empty on all four of its power-play chances, including a five-minute major on BU's Ben Rosen with 5:23 left in regulation. The visitors pulled Ouellette with 1:01 left to gain a 6-on-4 advantage but the BU penalty kill came through to secure the victory.

Maguire, who shut out St. Lawrence in his first home start on Nov. 24, is currently on a shutout skein of 131:19.

The Terriers will take three weeks off for finals and the holidays before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 29, at Denver in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game.
