Eagles Sign Former Vipers Defenceman Isaac Smeltzer:

The ECHL Colorado Eagles have signed former Vernon Vipers defenceman, Isaac Smeltzer to an amateur tryout contract. Smeltzer just completed his fourth season at Brock University. Smeltzer played his first three and a half seasons in the BCHL with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs before being traded to Vernon in his final season of Junior hockey (2007-2008). Alberni Valley traded Smeltzer to Vernon on November, 29th 2007 for forward, Evan Witt and defenceman, Eliot Raibl.  Smeltzer collected (6-17-23) in 29 regular season games with the Vipers.  Smeltzer is now the second former Vernon Viper on the Eagles roster as former Vernon Vipers forward, Patrick Cey is in his second season in Colorado.  Cey played two seasons in Vernon (2005-2007).

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles of the ECHL announced today that they've signed defenseman Isaac Smeltzer to an amateur tryout contract and that he will play in tonight's game against the Alaska Aces at the Budweiser Events Center.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pound blueliner just completed his fourth season at Brock University where he recorded 42 points (8-34-42) and 270 penalty minutes in 105 overall games. He set collegiate career highs in goals (4), assists (10), points (14) and PIMs (138) this past season.

Prior to attending Brock University, the Estevan, Saskatchewan native played four seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League, registering 69 points (19-50-69) and 327 PIMs in 158 games.

The Eagles, who have already clinched a playoff berth, will continue their push for final playoff positioning this week with three games against the defending champion Aces at the Budweiser Events Center.
