A Vernon Vipers alumnus will be returning to the Wesbild Centre.

However, Aaron Volpatti won’t be playing.

The former Vipers forward, now with the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, will be on hand Jan. 27 to sign autographs and help with Vernon’s bid to host the 2014 Royal Bank Cup tournament.

He will also be giving away his signed Canucks jersey between intermissions at the game.

People who have signed up to support Vernon’s bid for the RBC Cup have had their name entered into a draw to win the Volpatti jersey. People can still sign up (and be entered for the jersey draw) at the Wesbild Centre during the next Vipers’ home game, tonight, against the Trail Smoke Eaters.

People who wish to help bring the RBC Cup to Vernon can also contribute at Chris Collard’s Sun Life office, at 209-2411 Highway 6, just behind the Tim Hortons location.

Donors can also contribute (and be eligible to win Volpatti’s jersey, a Vipers signed jersey, or Viper season tickets) online at https://www.registrationlogic.com/secure/Register.aspx?ID=146

Volpatti, 26, from Revelstoke, had season-ending shoulder surgery in December.

He scored his first goal in more than a year on Dec. 1 in a 6-5 loss to the Nashville Predators.

Volpatti, who spent three seasons with the Vipers from 2003-06, signed with the Canucks as a free agent out of Brown University in March 2010.

He secured full-time NHL employment this season after a strong prospects camp, training camp and pre-season.
